    Not in the western burbs.

Unfortunate for me as I really like BA Murderous. The couple of different Binny's I go to (Highland Park and Skokie) both said they only got Good Fiend. No idea how the Good Fiend is but I picked up a bottle anyway.

Both seems readily available, be it for a short time at the more popular locations. Looking on the trading boards people are trying to trade Good Fiend for ridiculous stuff like top ends Loons and Side Project. Personally I decided to pass on Good Fiend this week, seems like just another overly sweet adjunct stout from PW. I'm I missing something? Is it that good? Might just throw a rock and pick one up at the many smaller less known PW accounts in the city.

I tried GF at Emporium and was pretty disappointed to be honest, me and my buddy both weren't crazy about it. This coming from someone who LOVES PW.

Tried it on tap at Emporium during their CCBW tap takeover. I honestly did not enjoy it. No rum barrel presence. Raspberry finally came through once it warmed up. I have been trying to find BA Murderous instead of Good Fiend. No luck, but hope that helps you make a judgment call.

I think they were separated by area. Every place I spoke to in the burbs got Murderous and everyone in the city seems to have gotten Good Fiend.

Fortunately, I got both. I work in the western suburbs and live in the city.

Are these both 22 Oz bottles ( GF and Murderous)?

Square grouper is becoming emerald grouper

So when did square grouper change hop recipes?

Didn't it used to be like 4 hops? Is it just Citra now?

I thought SG was Citra and Mosaic. Where are you seeing that anything in the recipe has changed?

Per PW instagram, Emerald Grouper (formerly Square Grouper) is honey, Citra, Mosaic, and Simcoe. All things that are good.

The description on this site says it was originally Citra, Simcoe, Galaxy and Mosaic. Who knows if that's correct, though:

(well, we all know who knows)

edit: @chicagoTC beat me to it!

I had it on tap at Sportsman's on Western a couple weeks back. It's drinking really well right now, I would open it soon.

@NOTpipeworks @Always_B_Closing Does SG/EG no longer have galaxy hops? If yes, is it just with the switch to EG or has it been that way for some time? Or maybe it's just this particular batch? Thanks.

Quick question from an out-of-towner : I'm staying in Schaumburg this weekend and want to pick up some Pipeworks to bring home. I'm guessing it will be the standard stuff (Nin. vs. Uni., Lizard King) based on what is in stores right now. Looks like I've got a Binnys and a Whole Foods (which I'm closer to) Does it really matter which store to go to if all that is available is the standards? I would prefer fresher as I'll be bringing it home to drink it at a (slightly) later date so if Binnys in Schaumburg get's more turnover and therefore fresher batches this would be a plus. Thanks!

I'd recommend Binny's. They will have more of their non-standard stuff that's been released in the past month.

If you're here until Monday, you have a shot at Emerald Grouper being delivered there on Monday.

Definitely Binny's out of the two. Bigger selection of PW beers, and the turnover is more frequent with the regular stuff.

Thanks for the input - Binny's it is. I unfortunately will be heading out Sunday so I'll miss any chance at trying this special release (as I always do when I visit Chicago) but am psyched to get any PW beers - especially their PA's and IPA's. Maybe Binny's will be a better place to score some other stuff that I can't get in my home state (MI). Gonna bring two growlers as well as I will be close to Revolution on Sat, and can hit Half Acre as well. If there are any other recommendations for an IPA lover while I'm in the area I'd love the advice - Thanks!
