Master of Karate + new t-shirts and glassware - I wish I shared your optimism about Sunday - maybe the 64oz limit will help though

@Hophead. Why wouldn't they want to run out on Saturday? Sunday-funday for the owners plus the hype just builds for the next Aslin release.

True, they don't really sell anything besides beer. Being open costs money so if they can sell off their inventory in one day instead of two than why not?

The only reason I could see is for their non-owner employees. Losing a day of income is a big deal. ...I'll be popping by there this afternoon to make sure my Friday off is properly hopped.

Yeah it may be a business but its still what these guys love to do. If i owned a brewery, id want to be there everyday letting people enjoy my beer and talking to people.

I'm going to optimistically predict at least one of the two SAturday release IPA's will be left by the start of Sunday. That's assuming they don't early release either of them.

They ran out last week because they actually started pouring the Peach+Vanilla on Thursday, because they took some of the supply to the Americana Festival, and because it was only one beer, not two (I'm assuming two beers means twice the actually available beer but realize that may not be the case.)

Any idea what's on at Aslin today besides Neutrino & Red Invasion?

I'll be honest, I know Aslin is small and still growing and dealing with hype, but I was disappointed driving all the way out there and only having 2 beers on tap, one of which kicked while I was there. Not gonna stay long if I can't try more. Especially disappointed since the Gose and other 2 IPAs kicked before the weekend. Maybe they should limit their weekday hours to have more beers on tap during the weekend? Not really complaining, but hard to stay for much more than 30min - 1 hour if there is only 2 options on tap.

Aslin just announced on Instagram that they're going to be closed on Wednesdays from now on, but they're getting new tanks in August to increase capacity.

RE: Aslin, this is a brewers dream/nightmare. Positive: If you are selling out of your beer in a few days, you are doing something right. Negative: You are leaving money on the table because of lost sales.

I really think they should limit their crowler/growler sales even more. I think the longer term play is to have a setup where more people can enjoy your beer and become fans, rather than a few that are going to bring in mules just to buy as much as they can and sell it out of market. Then once they have expanded and can keep up with demand, they will have a much bigger following.

On the other hand, the growth market is almost entirely out-of-market not locals. If you catch fire like Treehouse, you can get really big, really quick, whereas if you gain a few more regular local customers, that only takes you so far. It's a cynical view, but it's probably true in this day and age of beer trading and hype.

Edit: Underlying this view is the assumption that those evil mules are actually spreading the wealth far and wide, and if you severely limit take-away purchases, most product would be consumed on site by a smaller circle of people (though some of us here might benefit).

Do we think there's any risk of Karate and Starfish selling out by early afternoon? I'm going to be in town this weekend and was planning to stop by around 2 or so. Think I'll have any issues getting a crowler of each?

Good point, but if we go under the assumption that you are going to sell out of all your beer every week regardless, what's the best marketing play long term.
    - Limit what you can take out
    - No limits at all and if you sell it all in one day, well that's less overhead for opening X days a week
    - Sell kegs in the area
I'm no expert in this, but I think allowing some to-go beer, but limit it to say one crowler of each. It helps keep the hype machine going and makes people rush to come get some before it's gone. Will be interesting to see how quickly things go once they are able to produce more and there isn't a reason to get the beer that day or within 3 days.

Lost revenues. If they had beers available, they would be selling them on Sundays. They just announced they are cutting back to just Thursdays through Sundays. No more Wednesdays. They need to produce more at this point. If they had produced more beer, they would have sold it. Ocelot isn't much older than them, but Ocelot had 17 taps going when I was there last Saturday. Ocelot has a much bigger facility, though. They could contract out to Beltway or something. They need to be sending kegs to Churchkey and Rustico and Dominion and total wine, nevermind keeping their own tap room stocked. The risk with expansion is the dilution in the quality. But, the limited supply is keeping the demand and hype at feverish levels.

i don't mind the traders quite as much, as they are pulling, hopefully, stuff of commensurate quality from across the country in return and hopefully turning around and sharing or trading the fruits of their trades locally.

Yup, this was my point. Drove 45 min to get there, only got to try 2 beers. Disappointing. Hope the more limited hours mean more beer getting made!

Where are people selling crowlers of Aslin beers? On facebook? I just have a hard time believing that is where it's going, they are really really small, outside of beer geek sites very few even in NoVA have even heard of them (not for long). They just don't make all that much beer. And thus it's really really fresh and tastes awesome.

    Probably more trading than selling.
