The stories about ReGifter and SR-71 being "failed" versions of other TG beers was pure speculation by people outside of the company. Nobody from TG ever confirmed any of those stories.

I have no idea on ReGifter. But your speculation on SR71 is 100% false.

Showboat Saloon owner in the Wisconsin Dells told me that when TG dropped off the keg of ReGifter, they told him it was a recent batch of King Sue that "just didn't turn out how they had expected".

I trust he wouldn't lie to me.

You must not remember the pics TG posted on Twitter/Facebook last year of them dumping barrels of Naughty Temple out the back of their brewery, because they weren't up to their standards, huh?

Ah, not forgotten just not mentioned because it doesn't play into the narrative :astonished:

I'm definitely not "in the know" on this but I'd trust Grants info.

Everything I've heard from people who should know these sorts of things is that it definitely wasn't an accident and it will be made again. If you've tasted the beer you know that there are no "off flavors". One of the best stouts I've ever had.

I could buy Regifter being an accident based on the timing of its release, and that it never got brewed again. Hell, the name itself sounds like a tongue-in-cheek acknowledgment.

The idea that SR71 is an accident is fruit loops.

I can't find the old discussions, but it was a fine tale. Mike told someone who told someone that it was Assassin 2014 that developed off flavors in the barrel, so instead of bottling it, they kept it in barrels longer. Then during Mike's hiatus, they bottled it. There were no off flavors when it was bottled as SR-71.

I didn't make up the story, but I also didn't imagine it.

Got a can of Golden Nugget and PsuedoSue, a bottle of PseudoSue, a bottle of Double Dry Hopped PseudoSue, a bottle of Sosus and a bottle of Zeelander.

Golden Nugget wasn't for me, too malty.

The bottle of PseudoSue was MUCH better than the can. They were pretty much two different beers. Maybe the can was from Florida? It wasn't old, canned on May 10th and I don't think the bottle was much fresher. The can was much maltier and more single note than the bottle and didn't look anywhere near the same as the liquid from the bottle, the bottle was good.

    Zeelander was good.

Still have the DDH PseudoSue and Sosus, but I don't think any of the beers I've had so far have lived up to the hype.

I've heard Sosus is the favorite by many and I love the Mosaic hop so I have high hopes for that brew.

Taste is subjective and all... Zeelander is the hype, and the latest batch was so great. DDH pSue is close, but Zee is the one you should've cherished.

Your Sosus isn't going to be fresh enough, IMO. Had it been stored cold that entire time, I'd feel differently.

All of the brews have been in my fridge since I got them. They spent less than 24 hours out of a fridge from person to person.

I've had much better brews with Nelson hop in them than Zeelander. Cellarmaker makes a lot of Nelson hopped IPAs that I would choose over TGs Zeelander. Like Mt. Nelson for example. Sure it's a pale ale and not an IPA, but they're extremely close in ABV. I guess I'm just spoiled being able to drink CM on a regular basis. I'd suggest trading for some of their brews and comparing if you haven't already done so.

I mean it should still be good if it's been stored cold, but it has been about a week under two months since being bottled. Nothing like fresh Sosus. I still have a couple bottles, which have been great recently but nothing like 1-2 weeks out from bottling.

Strange, I must be one of those people that thought Sosus got better with 2-3 weeks on it.

Also, have they ever done a Double Dry Hopped King Sue variations or firkins of that nature?

I agree that Sosus isn't a beer I prefer super fresh. It's not worse, it's just not far better to me at a week than at two months. King typically is though so wtfdik.

Also, Supa Sumo firkins (mosaic King) were made last June and this January, I think.

2-3 weeks seems to usually help Sosus. 2-3 months isn't always as productive. I've had bottles (the first ever batch of Sosus in particular) that held up really well over a several month period, but this last batch hasn't done as well at that length of time.

Still pretty good, but not something I'd offer up as peak TG.
