Haven't had this beer in a year or two. It used to be one of my favorites. Well balanced with the perfect amount of adjuncts.

Just had a bottle tonight, and it was a straight coffee bomb (no pun intended). It was still tasty but so far removed from the original beer. All I could taste was coffee. Has this beer changed in the past 2 years or did I get a bad batch? Really hoping it was just a batch that they added a little too much coffee to.

    Cheers!

I first had it in late 2014, and thought it could use more chile/pepper/whatever they use. It's good, but it could use some more spice.

IMO underwhelming at $10 a bottle. No pepper at all, kinda flat. Mexican Cake kills it IMO , it's not even close. Don't get Bomb hype, a never buy for me.

The first I had a while back was pretty vanilla forward, while the last I had was heavier on the coffee. Always a great beer either way.

It is one of my favorite beers of all time. The flavor definitely changes as the beer warms up though.
Cold you get more coffee, as it warms you get more vanilla, and the chile comes in on the finish.

I've been drinking Prairie Bomb on regular occasions, and while I do find it pretty coffee forward, I usually get a good bit of chili as it warms and opens up some. Love this beer; it's one of my go-to's.

First one i tried was this year i thouhght it was sickly sweet and not worth the US $22 a bottle

While I didn't pay near that much for a bottle, I still agree. I'm not sure if I posted a review (I think I did), but it was more sugary sweet than anything to me, and while the coffee was there, I would by no stretch call it extremely or overwhelmingly coffee forward.

But I like coffee, and I like coffee-forward beers a lot, so maybe I'm a bit biased. If anything, I would say Bomb was too sweet and not coffee-forward enough.

I'm of the opposite opinion. Mexican Cake is good, but too hot for me. Bomb is one of the greatest beers in the world IMO and always a pleasure to drink. Never found it to be unbalanced. To each their own.

I don't think it's worth the $10 I paid here in the US, or even $5. I'll take that 5 per bottle and buy Schlenkerla Marzen or Urbock instead.

    I'm in the same camp.

I even think Framinghammer Mole is better than MC. And BOMB! beats both out for me.

Absolutely true, everyone likes something different. Roger at Bestway loves Bomb too , and he gets everything. I love the sharp bite of a MC, it loses that if you age it. If Bomb was half the price I might buy, but $10 IMO is absurd. I thought Pirate was pretty good though.

Have you considered the possibility that the beer is still pretty much the same and that you have changed in the past 2 years? This can happen, even on a very short time frame. I personally have often found that I can have two different reactions to two different bottles pulled from the same six pack but consumed on different days.

I find the same reaction to same beer on different occasions. Had FH Head Hunter, and Brew Kettle White Rajah a few months back and was blown away, considered two of the best. These are not available in Mich, so drove an hour yesterday to Ohio and picked up both. Drank one of each last night, and though they were just OK. The Fat Head was fresh, no date on Rajah. Strange

This has happened to me more often than I care to admit. Oh my basic impressions usually remain but the nuances can vary by a wide margin.

I am a thumbs up with the too much coffee club. It seems that creating a "coffee bomb" is the thing to do these days. I love stout and other dark beers, especially bourbon barrel aged but I am REALLY looking forward to the coffee craze to fade away. Notes of coffee are fine. The "Starbucks Effect" is not. At least in my opinion.

Yeah, what many of us don't realize is that even the food you eat for lunch today rather than yesterday can result in some of those differences.

I'm a big fan of coffee, beer and Bourbon but don't favor any combination of the three because I like coffee hot, beer cold, and Bourbon stands on it's own.

I've had it quite a few times over the past 2 years both bottled and on draft and it's been fairly consistent and never coffee forward to me
