Hope my, and all of our, wishes help you deal with being sick and impending loss. I know you have probably heard all kinds of advice but 6 generations of my family have fought that shit with fresh chicken soup with lots of greens and garlic. My kids and I swear by it and I highly recommend the hassle involved with making it fresh and right.

Healing vibes sending now from you friendly neighborhood BA hippy.

Well Good evening all- And of course Happy Fathers Day and Thanks Maria for the kickoff and proper explanation of the style- always a good lesson for me. This day not only brings back memories but also reminds me I'm lucky to have my Dad still. He's eighty and since my Mom was lost entirely too early its good to still have Dad around. This day also reminds me of not how great a Dad I am but that I need to get better as a Dad. I have two great kids- son 23 and Daughter 20 and I wife who puts up with all my crap. So I always need to be conscientious of that and always improve.
So todays brew was hard to pick- I have a few new ones. But I received this from @PatrickCT - he is aware I like a well made Brett IPA- which can be rare. So here it is:

Kent Falls Brewing -This Isnt Even My Final Form- Brett IPA

I pop the cap on this and get a nice unexpected wiff of tropical and citrus with very little Brett. The beer poured starts with a voluminous head that calms after a few to a thin ring. The color is of hazy straw and there are traces of spotty lacing.

The smell once again is of tropical fruits- pineapple, maybe a touch of mango and some citrus - lemon, lime and grapefruit. There is a hint of Brett but its not overpowering and there are some sweet notes of doughy malts. Nice smelling brew that has all the aromas you'd expect in an IPA.

The taste again is wonderful tropical fruit with sweet tangerine and pithy grapefruit. There are notes of grass and some sweetness from a touch of malt that is balanced by a pleasant bitterness. The Brett is there- but is not a major player- there is just enough to keep this out of the ordinary. These Brett IPAs are hard to pull off with balance and this one is skillfully crafted. Very Nice indeed.

Feel is medium bodied- a little heavy for the style but that is corrected by the ideal amount of carbonation and the pleasant bitterness drys out and makes this a very easy and thirst quenching beer- another aspect hard to pull off in these beers.

Only my second crack at Kent Falls and I have to say its damn good. These people know how to walk the line between cutting edge and adherence to a style. Man, the Brett/Hop balance is perfect. The drinkability spot on and the originality perfect. I might just say that to date its the best presentation of the style Ive had- a style many shy away from.
    Thanks KF- and Thanks Patrick.
And for NewOldVinylSunday- there is no NOVS today - sorry folks. Too nice to go inside. Ill just sit out here and check out your posts. Should be a good time! As always thanks for taking the time and have a great week.[IMG]

Good afternoon NBS-ers! Today being Father's Day I figured I would treat myself!

    Grimm Super Spruce
Dry Hopped Gose Ale Brewed With Spruce Tips And Conditioned On Oak
    [IMG]
    January 2016 vintage

Poured a pale golden color with some haziness. The only head formed at the initial pour and dissipated quickly.

Strong aromas of spruce tips, pine, hops with a slight sourness. But as expected the spruce dominates BIG TIME.

Yep, definitely getting those spruce tips up front. A nice piney hoppiness is right there in the middle, ending with a nice sour and saltiness that is quite refreshing and the saltiness entices you to drink even more! Not sure if I am getting a lot of oak; but this does have nice layers of flavor. Really love the taste of this beer!

Mouth feel is light and there's a crispness to it that is nice.

Overall, this is a very nice Gose from Grimm. The addition of spruce tips is a great idea; it dominates the flavor but the finish let's you know that this is a Gose. The sour and saltiness on the end is welcome finish that balances out amount of pine in this bottle.

    Cheers!

    Hi NBS gang!

My wife brought Alice home for me.

Generally, a bomber bottle weighing in at only 6.3% ABV does not interest me very much.
Yeah, I'm one of those BA's.

But! Those magical words "Belgian Blonde Ale" get me every time. Especially when my
wife (also a blonde), is offering to purchase "Alice" for me!

Alice comes from Rhinegeist in Cincy. My experience with Rhinegeist is limited despite
this part of Ohio being buried in the stuff. I've only had a couple I thought were pedestrian.
Anyway! Alice is crisp, and grassy. The label touts banana and pear notes and BY GOD
they're in there! Also states it's brewed with a new American hop called LemonDrop. : )

Excellent summertime beer and I would prefer a six pack of cans. : )

Thanks for letting me check Belgian Blonde Alice off my list Honey!

Giving another new-to-me hoppy beer a go. This one is from Missouri's 4Hands, and it's called Send Help. Alright. Let's drink.

Look: This beer pours an opaque yellow-straw, with a medium-thin (1 cm) white head. The beer was poured, the above picture snapped, and then the can was rinsed and put in recycling. Upon my arrival, the head had nearly completely disappeared.

Aroma: Muted and softspoken hop notes including citrus, spruce, and floral come to the front. A nutty, earthy malt background keeps this beer grounded and understated.

Taste: Upon sipping it, it does not resonate loudly with hop notes in the flavor profile. It opens up mellow, with wheat and nutty malts. The aftertaste is more on the hoppy side with notes of spruce, and citrus. It is incredibly simple in its profile, which makes it easy to drink. Not all the notes are delivered on adequately.

Mouth feel: It just looks thin, as the beer seems to slosh around the glass a little easier than most. The mouth feel supports this claim, as it has a thin, watery consistency. Carbonation and a bit of particulate add some texture, but otherwise it's incredibly thin and slick.

Overall: Not a beer I would recommend. It certainly is understated and low key which may work for some, particularly on a day in the triple digit Fahrenheit range. Not all the notes seem to be well delivered or expanded upon.

    Score: 3.5 | 4 | 3.75 | 3.25 | 3.5 | BA Score: 3.7

[IMG] Hello everybody and greetings on a scorching Fathers Day in Southern Arizona. I had my digital meat thermometer out in the back yard and it was registering 114 in the direct sunlight. I got my hands on 3 cans of Bouleverd Tropical Pale Ale, but I'm giving one to my son since I am a Beer Advocate, not a Beer Bogart.

    BOULEVARD TROPICAL PALE ALE
    5.9 % ABV

    Canned on 4-27
Appearance: dark golden hue, head is medium, a little lacing.
Aroma: fruity with some hops, smells tropical.
Taste: light and delightful, fairly hoppy, decent malt backbone, a malange of tropical flavors,
Perhaps some guava, mango, grapefruit, others that I can't quite identify.
Mouthfeel: average carbonation, decent body for a Pale.
Boulevard set out to tap into the tropical segment of Pale Ales, and they certainly came up with a tasty, fruity concoction that is a good addition to their lineup. This is a Pale Ale that I would buy and drink again given the oppurtunity. I also like the standard Pale by them as well.

    Appearance - 4
    Aroma - 4.25
    Taste - 4.25
    Mouthfeel - 4
    Total - 4.125

Clarification: It was poorly worded to say I've only had a couple Rhinegeist beers that were "pedestrian". Meaning, of all their beers that I've enjoyed, a only couple were pedestrian. This brewery is SOLID! I love Truth IPA, Sabertooth DIPA, Panther, Café Ink, Gramps, and others. Just wanted clear that up if any Rhinegeist folks or fans are on here.

Now, back to the rest of Alice!

And not to beat a dead horse but I have a best friend who also started a brewery from he the ground up Sean L of Revival who also does all the Narragansett HP Lovecraft recipes and without the help of his people would never have gotten to where he is. So IMHO mans ingenuity evolves into "people" who believe and want to work with you to follow your vision. As we know no one survives in this business by themselves. My comment was not intended to be an insult Rather praising and admiration for what it takes would be more of a fitting assessment.

Great review- I'm thoroughly impressed with Kent Falls myself. They (well...Derek ) have a very deft touch with the brett and the hops, and use them in a very complementary way.

Thanks, @cavedave, for your observations about your Dad. My Dad drank Miller High Life. We had a delivery every two weeks of a case of 7 oz. "nips." He drank one after dinner every night. He worked in NYC, and when he arrived home he and my Mom would have either a Martini or a Dewers. With my prodding, he later changed to Heineken and then to Sam Adams Boston Lager. I often wonder what he would think of my craft beer drinking now. I just finished a bomber of Westbrook Mexican Cake. Would he like it? I guess I'll never know.

Hey all! Happy NBS and Happy Father's Day as well to all of you dads and father figures out there. Today I only have one new beer that I can share with you all, and it's Uinta's Tangerine Hop Nosh.

Pours a nice, clear-ish, golden-orange color with a retentive bone-white head. Doesn't form very much, volume-wise, but what's there sticks around for the entirety of the session. Lace seems very consistent, coming down in small sheets over time. Definitely a good looking beer here.

I've only had one other tangerine-laced IPA that I can recall, and that was the seemingly under-the-radar Stone Tangerine Enjoy By. I feel like I saw it one day and it disappeared the next. I liked it well enough, finding the slight juicy, bright notes of the citrus to work with the hoppy and complex base beer, but overall it wasn't a huge improvement (or even difference, really) over the normal Enjoy By formula. The nose on this one is very "green," fresh-smelling and loaded with citrusy hop notes that seem to play well with the fruit addition. I definitely pick up a bit of tangerine as well as some grapefruit and orange pulp. I have to admit I am not as familiar with Hop Nosh as I'd like to be at this particular moment... I think the last time I had it was before the whole name change thing, when it was still called Hop Notch! I remember liking it well enough, but recalling specifics is out of the question. I can definitely say that this presents as slightly more citrus-forward than most IPAs on the market right now, so the tangerine must be doing something for this.

Taste delivers satisfactorily with layers of piney hops, grapefruit, tangerine and orange juice with a pulpy and grassy note that lasts until the very end of each sip. Slight crackery malt body holds the whole thing together, but this features the juice addition quite prominently. The well-rounded flavor is likely in no small part due to its rather heavy alcohol content (7.3%) for the style. I've had some low-ABV fruited IPAs that basically drank like seltzer (Captain Lawrence's Grapefruit Effortless is the first that comes to mind, though I did enjoy my six pack of it), so having one that stands up as a beer proper is a treat. And it's cheaper than the semi-comparable Grapefruit Sculpin by a few dollars, while being rather well-balanced/compromising between hops and fruit.

Feel is rather coating and oily, with a dry finish and medium body. The palate does an interesting dance between juicier and hoppier flavors, while still always landing square in the middle, making each sip satisfying. This is a good beer that I am happy to have five more cans of in the fridge. Eminently crushable yet flavorful, bright and hoppy, this is a fruited IPA I can get behind whole-heartedly!

As I drink this, I'm listening to a very complex, interesting progressive rock/metal album that some of you may enjoy. The band is called Grayceon and they are a three-piece band playing long-form songs featuring electric cello as a main instrument. Very cool stuff here with a lot of unique ideas.
