I did the same thing once at Blind Tiger. Saw someone ordering a Fresh Hop Ale and suggested they might like a nice lager instead, cause those Ales can taste bitter and fruity, not like beer is supposed to taste. I also heard that on Beer Advocate.

I dunno, I know some just want to come in and grab their case of Natural Ice and leave, but I am talking about the guys that have their six pack of Bud Light Lime in their hand and are actively looking through the craft section. It can be daunting. At my local shops there are thousands of craft choices....it is so easy to get lost. BMC is like their safety blanket, and sometimes it takes a helping hand to show people the way.

Maybe it was the same group of girls? I know the ladies are always impressed when you mention Beer Advocate!

You can take a horse to good beer but you can't make it drink it.

Never, I don't care what anyone else drinks to be honest.

Well I am stupid enough to make suggestions and I get some nasty looks, I just waned to save you some. I see at the total wine about once a week.

I tried for years to convert folks, you just lose friends over it, its not worth it. Plus why do you care, it is their money. Trust me I want to help folks, but It usually back fires on me, but hey it may work for you.

No doubt, I'd never say anything as I wrote in my OP. But I really want to sometimes. But, it's none of my business.

I have and I have never gotten a positive response from my stupid suggestions. I learned from those experiences, that while I have passion for good beer, many just do not care.

I'm always curious too when guys reach around Two Hearted to grab Bud light too, but would never tell them Bud Light is maybe the worst beer in the world or at least close to it.

I have tried only with my friends that drink miller lite, bud etc. And they cant get past the price barrier.

Negative. My policy is definitely to let strangers enjoy whatever TF they like. Chances are Captain Miller Lite has tried a craft beer somewhere along the line and didn't care for it. I'll talk beer or make suggestions with friends but only of they've shown an interest. I prefer Dunkin Donuts coffee with lots of cream and sugar. I would be really annoyed if some asshole saw me drinking one and told me that I should be drinking Kopi Luwak or whatever.

This is basically how I feel. More often than not I say nothing, but if I am in the right mood and I see someone perusing for a style I particularly enjoy (like imperial stouts) then I'll pipe up and give them some suggestions and recommendations. It makes me sad when people come to my cash register with a six of Mich Ultra, but I zip it. If they come through with FW Wookie Jack however, then we have a discussion and I'll recommend REAL beer stores (other than my crappy grocery store) and other similar beers. I have gotten some good stuff because of people in beer stores talking to me though. I tried the most awful sour ale as my first foray into sours and I decided never to try another. Then a guy shopping at Total Wine convinced me to try some others so I went with one of his suggestions (Duchesse de Bourgogne) and haven't looked back.

Love it, hilarious, new favorite suggestion when I see someone buying Miller...

Oh and I always try with friends and family. I sort of got my dad on the craft beer bus, but his main reason for always going back to Bud Light is that he can drink it all day at the neighborhood pool with friends and while playing horseshoes and whatnot. He says the stuff I drink is to heavy for that. I disagree, but its cool.

Something about me seems to suggest to strangers that I'm looking for unsolicited advice when I'm standing in the craft section. It gets old. So I don't really tend to offer suggestions to others. I'll say, "that's really good" to something they've already pulled out, but that's about it.

I never give unsolicited advice to any people in a beer store, I just save that kind of advice for random people on a beer related internet forum! :stuck_out_tongue:

In all honestly I don't pay attention to what other people are buying when I'm at the beer shop (I'm not that much of a Mrs. Kravitz - for those who get that ancient reference).

Normally, when I know the beer buyer at the shop we will spend some time talking. On rare occasions I've had my opinion asked, on more frequent occasions I've overheard other "beer experts" offering advice in a Cliff Claven like fashion (only with less factual accuracy).

    Not once.

When asked, well, that's a completely different story. :sunglasses:

There are certain times I feel obligated to speak up. These are when I hear the employee at the beer shop (or server at the beer bar) talking about something like they know what they are talking about, but really they have no idea. I feel I have to speak up then because to the unfamiliar, these employees are taken to be experts and 85% of the time they have no freakin idea what theyre talking about.

I don't talk to people at beer stores, I just judge them silently. I love when I see 3 bros with sideways hats strut out of the cooler carrying 6 packs of Corona, Stella, or a handful of those huge Sapporo cans. They think they're so cool!
