I'd guess pretty much every brew produced in the UK will be changing its labels.

Another for me would have to be Russian River...at least their typeface. Comic sans? No thank you. And, a lot of their labels seem very "clip-arty."

The only one locally is HUSS Brewing, their can is about as plain as it gets, they could use a shot of pick me up or something, their beer is tasty but man the can looks so plain it makes it look super cheap.

Some of these beer labels contain words I wouldn't want a grandchild to repeat in public.

Old Leghumper, great beer in a corny wrapper. Even the name is corny but the label takes the cake.

Rivertowne Pourhouse gets my vote those cans are a mess. Like the Amazing Technicolor throw up just a wash of crazy colors. I have fun handing a can to someone who's already lit or high & asking them to tell me what "style" beer they are drinking from Rivertowne...:grinning:

Omnipollo. The labels are goofy. Plus, you have to pick up the bottle and turn it to see the name and style of beer.

Thirsty Dog. Even though this particular one is less hideous (albeit only marginally) that most of their other labels:

It feels like MT has absolutely no personality or feel that a person is behind it. It is highly calculated, and the whole bottle feels like a sales pitch. I come from an advertising, marketing and sales background so maybe I'm clouded but I'm able to sniff out contrived messaging quite well.

We all have different opinions but every business move that I've seen from MT, their leadership, and origin follows what I know to be paint-by-numbers, albeit smart, which is expressed in their design.

Can't remember the last time I bought or didn't buy a beer based on the label. The only beer this really works for is Budweiser.

But yet companies spend millions of dollars on labels and branding so there is absolutely merit to how appealing a label can be. See Troegs for proof.

Troegs, Weyerbacher and everyone else is doing it and like you said spending dollars. It might work in the short term in a crowded shelf but in the end the beer inside tends to get return customers more then a 1 time impulse buy.

But marketers who are probably much smarter than you and I (well, me for sure) think it's a great investment to rebrand....correct? So it must do more than provide a short term sales lift. I'm a huge believer in subliminal thoughts. We purchase stuff because of subliminal things that our concsience can't recognize. I really think this is why people spend the money on branding and labels. If things are pleasing to people, they will buy it whether they recognize that or not.

Quite true, but you do have to get them to try it that first time. :-)

Having worked with some professional marketers, I'd not say they are smarter. :-)

As for the power of marketing, etc. notice that we don't drive an Edsel Ford and drink New Coke. Can't even remember the last time I saw one of either. Also Coke continues to outsell Pepsi, despite the "Pepsi Challenge." :-)

Doesn't that support my theory? People continue to buy Coke because of branding and marketing, not because it tastes better.
