I was in the Woodruff/Minocqua area in n. WI today and stopped by this brewery. They were having a 1 year anniversary celebration with a food truck and live music later tonight. Worth a stop if you are in the area. I thought the IPA#2 was really nice. Had lots of fruity/floral characters from Simcoe/Mosaic additions. The Sour Red was nice, too Both beers were approachable. About half the taps were theirs and half were WI guest taps.
I'm heading up that way tomorrow from Chicagoland. Any other spots that you'd recommend in/around Minoqua or on the road north?
Minocqua Brewpub is pretty good. Decent, standard food fare, such as burgers, fish and chips, and such. I've enjoyed most of the beers I tried there, although I am hard-pressed to identify a standout. There was a wild rice lager that I found interesting, but that was probably like 10 years ago. The last time I was there, maybe 1-2 years back, I likely had a pale ale, or two. Tribute Brewery in Eagle River also makes some good beers. Some memorable beers I have a had include saison, Belgian Golden Strong, and a what I suppose would be a classic American pils. No food here, though, the last I was there, also maybe 1-2 years back. If you get to Boulder Junction, there are a couple good beer bars -- Aqualand Ale House and Boulder Beer Bar. Hope that helps. Have fun.
Hmmm...I'm heading up that way this weekend. I may have to stop by and check them out. Would love to have a good brewery in the area, never was a big fan of Minocqua Brewing beers and consequently stopped going there several years back.
When I was at Rocky last weekend, they about 5 taps of their own and the same number of Wisconsin guest taps. Hope you find something you like. Last time I was at Tribute, it was probably about the same.
Very cool, I've tried going to Tribute a couple times, but somehow I always end up in Eagle River when they're closed lol. Although, I did pick up a Tribute growler at Trigs before, the beer was not half bad. If I remember correctly it was their chocolate porter.
Well I thought Rocky Reef was a pretty nice place, with some very good beer. We were told that they are currently upgrading the brewery from a one barrel system to 10 barrels, and consequently didn't have everything on tap that they usually would have. They actually only had three if their own beers on tap. The hopwitzer, Outhouse brown ale, and a sour red. The sour red keg blew when we were there, fortunately we did get a pour of it, and even more fortunately they replaced it with their Sour Muskie, a sour blonde. Needless to say I enjoyed my time there, and am super happy to have a brewery to visit while in the area.
