People on BA have been predicting the session beer trend for quite a while now. That said, I should clarify my previous post by stating that session beers may indeed become a trend, but idea that extreme beers will lose popularity due to a increased interest in session beers is preposterous.

I don't know anyone that said that or even implied that. The market share of craft beer is growing so there's plenty of room for session beers without losing any existing capacity for big beers.

I meant ITT and I meant previoius to this year since I believe the trend is recent of session beers.... what I was saying is people weren't clamoring session beers were the new trend in early-2000's, it's just NOW happening.

I honestly think 25%-50% of the breweries that are opening now will close within 10 years. The market will get very saturated and the breweries that make crappy or mediocre beer will begin to shut their doors. Getting into a brewery is very hard and to get the business to start turning profit takes more than 5 years. Those who are opening because of the boom will soon realize that it is way more difficult that than thought so at first, sure they will get a few sales at the beginning from people being curious, but the market will come in to play and only the strong beer makers will survive. New brewery owners have to have a steep pocket or another job to survive for a while.

I am acquaintance with someone that started a brewery here in Houston not so long ago, 8th Wonder Brewery. It is composed of 3 partners and a handful of investors. They have a year in construction and they are barely in the process of brewing their first batches. Now their head brewer is a professor and teaches a production class at UH, making beer, wine and alcohol so I assume they will be well off as a brewery. His other 2 partners also run a restaurant so the brewery is more of a side job than their main money maker. I see great thing coming from these guys in the future.
