You're not alone. I've always wondered if Prairie has a Shetlon tax laid upon it.

Of course it does, the whole Shelton book does, some more than others, but it is still there.

Is it really a "Shelton Tax", or is it merely a side effect of shipping low volume products around the country? I've heard from folks on the East Coast that Upright 4/5/6/7 are $12-13 out there, whereas they're $10 in Oregon. I've also heard from people who live in Louisville that Against the Grain is 25-40% less expensive there than it is in Oregon, and they are carried by 12% Imports, so I suspect it has more to do with logistics and shipping costs more than anything else.

I can confirm seeing Upright at a few bars in PA for 12-20$ a bottle. And that's just the year round number beers.

Anyone seeing the June 2016 release of 'Prairie Apple Brandy Barrel Noir' in Seattle or Portland areas?

I've been actively looking, but nothing so far at a few Seattle places.

Never seen it in PDX or Seattle but maybe its coming in the future??? I did pick up a bottle last year in the Berkeley, CA so hopefully we will see in Seattle some day, the beer is KICKASS. I remember CA got the Prairie BOMB and more a year before us and now BOMB is everywhere in Seattle...figure out who distributes Prairie in PDX or Seattle and call the distributor directly, good luck

Thanks for info. Shelton Brothers distro system utilizes another regional distributor here in Seattle. I can't quite remember who the other distributor was. Kinda weird I guess.

Seems like another layer on top of the current three tier system. This could also explain why some of the Shelton Bros products are a little more expensive out here. But, Shelton is opening a brand new distribution facility in Oregon this summer I believe (Portland area). This will surely open up a ton more stuff in the region. Maybe knock a couple dollars off some of the bottles also. Ha.

Shelton comes through Vinum in WA, and thus far I have seen no BA Prairie beers. The last Prairie release was Birthday Bomb. I've inquired about BA Bomb's repeatedly and got nothing more than "not yet" so time will tell.

And as far as being another layer, maybe, maybe not. Most of the stuff in Sheltons book is fairly expensive and not limited just to Prairie beers. I wonder what HM bottles will be going for on the east coast when distributed through Shelton.

To get a possible idea, it looked like draft pours of HM were $10 at the NYC events. There were bottles Misere, but I don't think they were for sale, just pours.

That sounds downright reasonable for NYC. Maybe we've been confusing East Coast pricing for a Shelton tax all this time? Arguably they are one and the same, but it could just be they price for East Coast metro areas regardless of where the brewery resides or the beer is being sold, rather than adding 10-20% in the NW just for fun?

I think the most I've ever paid for a pour at Holy Mountain is $6. Maybe $8 for Midnight Still?

Wow wow wow: $10 pours!!!!! Would that be a 4-6 oz pour @$10?

What in the world are mixed drinks or straight shots running in NYC?

When the Oregon Shelton Brothers location opens, you would think HM will eventually creep into that market. So either HM increases their production (is that even possible?) or local allocations will become even leaner in Seattle?

That is pretty much the norm for that area, just look at the list at Tørst or Churchkey, or others. Its all just economies of scale.

Perhaps, though I wouldn't advocate for making a pricing model based solely off of the NE region.

I haven't had a pour from the source at Holy Mountain, but have been able to offer pours in the $5-7 range up north.

$10 isn't that outrageous, depending on the location. It is a bit more than we are used to, but try and surmise what the price would be for a pour of Other Half or Trillium here? I don't think it would be too far off from $10. Also, I would assume its more than a 4 oz pour.

Cocktails or pours are $15+ in that market and other larger markets.

I don't want to speculate on the future of HM but if they are in Shelton's book you will see, at least sporadically, more of their beers made available. Not sure at what prices though, bottles here are $14-16.

Future of Prairie Brewing, will we see more special releases and how will this affect the beer quality:

    Krebs Acquires Prairie Labels

Oklahoma’s Krebs Brewing Company — which produces the Choc Beer line of products — has purchased Tulsa-based Prairie Artisan Ales, a small but well-known craft label amongst beer aficionados.

It’s far less-publicized deal that actually occurred last year, according to a blog posted on the Prairie website by Krebs Brewing president Zach Prichard.

Krebs was already serving as the contract partner for the Prairie offerings, so production of the Prairie’s popular brands like Bomb!, Prairie Hop and Puncheon will remain at the Choc Beer Co. facility in Krebs, OK.

“Since I already felt like the beers were a partnership it only made sense,” Prichard said of the acquisition.

Prairie brewmaster and co-founder Chase Healey will reportedly have “some involvement” in the brand going forward, according to a report from the Tulsa World newspaper.

“It is a humbling move that shows Chase continues to trust us to innovate, make great beer, and share Prairie across the globe,” Prichard wrote on the blog, adding that his company plans to create new beers and add new locations in the coming months and year.

Prairie Artisan Ales produced 2,500 barrels in 2015, according to Brewers Association records. Choc Beer Co. produced an estimated 8,000 barrels last year, according to the BA. It’s unclear if that total also includes Prairie’s production.

Prairie is currently on the specialty shelf at Market of Choice in West Linn. 12 oz bottle prairie bomb for $9.99, 500 ml bottle Americana $9.99, and 750 ml bottle Vous Francais $9.99.

Bomb being 13% abv I cant imagine having more than a 12oz bottle.

Good to know, but as Arch Bridge has bomb both on tap and in bottles, at least for now, I would recommend going there if you're around that part of West Linn.

16 tons and bierstien have prairie americana on tap. Looks like bierstien has the bomb on tap also. I think 16 tons still has some bottles of Americana for $10 dollars.
