I didn't get any yet. I'm sure I will come across it. Comparing it to Enjoy by will make look a little harder

Michael I just gotta ask even though the answer will likely just get my blood boiling. What did you pay for this 4-pack?

    Cheers!

$11.99, but around here that's pretty normal so maybe just a simmer instead of a full boil?

Yeah- it's got that nice blend of tropical/piney/dank with a medium full body, very nice. BM me if you want to know where I went.

It's like a mash of all the styles of double ipa. It's enjoy by in the nose but way softer in the finish and more tropical/less oniony. Also not crystal clear as the west coasts are.

I wasn't really going for a direct comparison, but stylistically it's much more in the Enjoy By ballpark to me. Plus, the more I had, the less tropical it became. Definitely less bitter for sure, though. But I do think comparing it to a 'mash of all the styles of double ipa' works, too. At least at this point in time there's a freshness that really overrides the whole thing.

Troegs' "Freshest By" date on its packaging is based on the day the beer was canned or bottled, not "brewed" (pretty much standard practice in the industry for that "best by/before" method of date coding).

In Troegs' case, their standard beers are given a 4 months shelf life - example (from my recycling bins):

Cans of Sunshine Pils that were printed with "CANNED ON 040616" on the base were packaged in 12 packs stamped "FRESHEST BY 08/06/2016".

Surprised that Troegs apparently didn't code the 4-pk cardboard wrap for the NG release (based on those Instagram photos), but they are hardly the first brewer to make that mistake when they choose that sort of packaging for their cans rather than rings or other units that leave the bottom of the can exposed.

Had a NG last night....an above average DIPA....reminds me of Hop Ranch, but not as enjoyable as Dirt Wolf.

I had a can last night and i think the reviews on this site describe it pretty well. I'm not usually a double IPA drinker, but this was enjoyable to me. It wasn't overly sweet, overly thick or overly bitter or astringent which DIPAs can sometimes seem. So it was good for my purposes. I don't know if it's worth searching far and wide for but if you're not expecting it to be some kind of transformative revelation you will enjoy this beer. I will add that I liked the feel of the can. It was very smooth. I was wondering if they had some special coating or paint.

I got mine at Bottle King in Dumont, and there were still a couple of cases as of this afternoon.

(yup, I just grabbed another )

Best part this beer is the can. Really well made can with the matte black feel to it.

If I were the brewer I wouldn't take that as a compliment

I've had all those fancy Massachusetts beers and I thought this was a fine DIPA. Just because it's not completely juice hops doesn't mean it's less quality. Was actually surprised at how soft the mouthfeel was on this given its clarity.

I gotta hand it to ya. When these sorta threads pop up and people are clamoring over how great something is, im usually the debbie downer full of criticism and negativity. You get to wear that hat this time.

I thought nimble giant was pretty good. Fairly easy drinking for 9% and without any weird vegetal flavors that I sometimes notice in Troegs hoppy offerings.

My only gripe is that I was out of the country when this was released so I asked a friend to pick me some up at the brewery. He did successfully which was nice but what a kick in the dick to return home this weekend and see it at a local distributor for $20 cheaper than what he paid per case at the brewery.

Lionvill Beer & Soda had at least cases on Monday, but you have to buy by the case since it's not in 12 pack format and I believe it's priced in mid to high $70 range

Welcome to Troegs beers! Not anything special/not bad either...that should be their motto! Although I have to say that this year's Nugget Nectar was very tasty.

Hmm, there seems to be a fair bit of folks who are not big fans of Troegs beer.

I personally am a big fan of Sunshine Pils and Nugget Nectar.

    Cheers!

P.S. I will not be purchasing Nimble Giant since generally speaking I am not a fan of very high gravity hoppy beers (e.g., Double IPAs, Triple IPAs, etc,).

I'm a big fan of Troegs and their beers. The place is great, their food is top notch and their beers are almost all good or better. I'm a big fan of Perpetual, Nugget Nectar and many of their scratch series beers. I was just underwhelmed with Nimble Giant. I'm curious if this beer hadn't been released as a scratch series beer and had so much fanfare behind it if I would have felt the same.

[QUOTE="scraff, post: 4874130, member: 1938"If the can said Veil, Aslin, RAR, Grimm, Alchemist, Trillium, Tree House, etc...people would lie cheat and steal to get their hands on it.[/QUOTE]

You are probably right, but I am not sure it would be justified. I think it is a good solid beer, but I can't get my head around paying about the same for it as what most of the above charge for generally better beers. I will be interested to see if Troegs continues to release beers in this price range. I guess that will depend on whether they continue to sell once (or if) the novelty wears off.

It's interesting, because just a few months ago, Troegs priced their barrel aged Troegnator and Flying Mouflan a lot lower than in years past (although it appeared they may have used differing aging/barrel methods than in the past).

But Troegs has to see a local PA brewery like Tired Hands selling their 16 oz canned IPAs for anywhere from $14 to $22 a 4-pack, with no case discounts (and direct-to-consumer without any distribution mark-up) and be jealous. They know there are consumers willing to pay those very high price points.

It would seem to figure that all of the idiots fanatics standing in line for beer across the country are just driving up the cost of limited release beer across the industry. Don't do it.
