This brewery can do no wrong. This one smells fruity cloudy yellow with a thin head and little lacing. Slight fizz in the mouth but otherwise smooth as silk. Extremely drinkable it goes down easy. Is it me or is there an onion thing that goes with most Trillium beers, I'm not complaining.

Last one, this outstanding imperial stout.

Avery does all sorts of adventurous stuff (Tweak, Rumpkin, Pump[KY]n, etc), and compared to those beers, this is tame - if tame is a barrel-aged imperial stout loaded with vanilla weighing in at 10.8% ABV.

The pour yields a jet-black beer with some red colors leaking in around the edges and a couple of fingers of tan head. The aroma is SOOOOO barrel - with vanilla. My mouth is watering, and the taste doesn't disappoint, with the barrel and the vanilla working together to make this a wonderful example of the BA style. I wish I'd purchased a couple of more of these to age, because I think in a couple of years, this will convince you to name your children "Vanilla."

    Rated 4.31.

I just saw that Duran Duran are playing at the local casino in August. Prices start at $65. I'm not that desperate to get in touch with my adolescence.

New beer, new Sunday, and my first NBS... as well as my first Wicked Weed sour

I'm not too familiar with sour ales, brett beers, or even farmhouse ales in general, but after trying a few I'm starting to get a good feel for them. This one from Wicked Weed is fermented on peaches, one of my favorite fruit. It wasn't advertised as "sour", but after tasting it I thought it was a good descriptor. Maybe tart is a better word, either way it has some pretty strong mouth puckering action with lively active yeast tingling all over. The smell and taste were that of the freshest ripe whole natural peach off the tree, with some tart sour action, mild earthy funkiness, and subtle nuanced notes of oak barrel and grass. Not too complex, but this one really doesn't need to be. The peach is prominent and clearly stands out in this great rendition of a brett farmhouse ale fermented on peaches. I'll be checking out more WW "sours" as long as they are in fair price point. This one cost around $10 - $12 near me for the 1 pint 0.9 fl oz bottle.

Remind me of your age. I thought there was less than a decade between us, but I would have been 5 at the time of this show.

I get that sometimes. I think it is from the abundant amount of mosaic and citra hops that they use in a lot of beers. The oniony quality actually provides flavor and isn't offensive like it can be sometimes. For me it's usually sweet not sharp onion. It kinda blends in with their dank columbus hop usage as well.

Ahh you younguns, in '78 I'd already been cross country 6 times, spent a year in Mexico, was married to my hippie chick girlfriend, and had my first child.

And, best thing, either week before, or week after, details are, um, "cloudy", another 3 band bill, same place and price. Opener: Molly Hatchett, supporting their debut album. Middle: due to one of the Allman Brothers Bands "hiatuses", Dickey Betts and Great Southern. Headliner: Charlie Daniels Band, when he was still a hippie, and a Reagan Republican. Played Devil Went down to Georgia, he said from stage, for the first time in public (grains of salt),but, they lit his fiddle so it looked gold during the song. We had gotten an album signed at The Great Great House of Guitars (645 Titus Avenue) at a meet n greet earlier that day. My date was suitably impressed. I was suitably rewarded:wink:.

Thanks to @utopiajane for the fabulous kick off.

So what's up in the kngdom? In my best moster truck announcer voice Its Sunday-ay-ay and Round Two of Tile-mageddon. The good news is it is almost done...the bad news is I have a pile of busted up floor tile shoved under the table we are planning to remove. When I get tired of swinging the hammer, been puttering in the garden which is coming along great except for my hot peppers. Plants are healthy, but not growing well yet. Maybe they like rhe heat and humidity we have thankfully been lacking.

Wednesday evening we went to see:

And the queen was well pleased and peace reigned in the castle (even with mountains of deadly pottery shards in the kitchen).

Well, the missus...Hell or High Watermelon. She asked me to taste it after she sipped it to "see if anything was wrong with it"...is that like a does this dress make my butt look big question? Impossible to answer? It taste like beer with watermelon...Actually, although I wouldnt drink it, not exactly horrible...not exactly...

I guess the point is "whats in the glass". Accompanying an unusual Sunday night leftovers smorgasbord is Deviduous Brewing Auranja. The beer was recommended by the beer man at Julio's a couple weeks ago and I took the last bottle...yeah, weird for me but OK and now I am greatful (or grateful). The beer pours hazy orange with a finger of soapy bubbles that vanish leaving nothing behind. The smell is wonderfully orange, and the fleshy part rather than the rind. There us a very faint funk and a decidedly floral note. A bit of earthiness. The flavor - wow. Bracing acidity...the teeth-squeaking kind, but immeduately balanced by wonderfully juicy orange. Mid palate there is a floral note quickly mingled with an earthy undertone. The finish is quick and clean with an orange juice aftertaste. I cant quite put my finger on the floral note to describe it, but it is certainly there. Refreshing beer out of the frudge and certainly cutting through the demolition dust. I might never have this one again, which is unfortunate, but I am digging it now and feeling the 4.3-ish range coming in on this one. And it is low enogh ABV I can go play John Henry again if I get motivated. OK...too obvious...insert genre and version of your choice, I will go non-traditional with Joe Bonamassa.

Some folks I am too lazy to go back and look up were talking Mark Knopfler who is a favorite of mine as well. I enjoy his collaboration with Emmy Lou Harris...two voices I couldnt imagine blending, but it works and they do harmonize on every song. I will post this one, inspired (by what I read, anyway) by cell phone calls between 9-11 victims and loved ones.

All ya'll celebrate the 4th safely...cheers...or cheahs and have a wicked pissah 4th! Representin'...

I saw Steel Mill in Fall 69 at the University of Richmond in an old and small gym on campus. They were the opening act for Percy Sledge. We had no idea who Springsteen was and he was great. We soon learned. Percy Sledge actually said it was a tough act to follow.
