12oz bottle poured into a snifter. The aroma is jammed pack with sweet malts, toffee, and a good dose of hops. The nose is fantastic, very aromatic. The taste starts out with malty sweetness that lingers well into the finish. To help balance out the sweetness, a generous amount of hops create a really nice bitterness in the finish. This is a fantastic beer that I'm looking for in a barleywine. Tons of malts and hops and perfectly balanced between the two. At 11%, this is also a beer that seems like it will age nicely.

Greetings All from the Great Northwest, on this long Summer Holiday Weekend.

Today we have Flock Party Pale Ale, a limited release from Black Raven Brewing, Redmond, WA.
    http://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/19765/225460/

Unfortunately not a great pale ale. Long on some odd fruit flavors, with a bit of a cough medicine flavor. I don't think I would have this again.

Sunny breezy and cool for the 4th of July here in the Columbia Basin. Winds gusting to 30 or so, and temps in the upper 70's.

I've got my weekend chores done, so tomorrow looks like brewing and barbecue.

    Until next time,

    Happy Trails!

Heyoo, I'm still at it since I do not have to go to work tomorrow. :grinning:

Finish the day as I started it, with Stone! A clear dark gold with a 2 finger white head. Retention is amazing and leaves a cap with very thick lacing on my glass. Aroma is very fruity with some nice citrus and dank hops. Sweet tangerine notes. Flavor is more tropical and juicy with fruity tangerine notes and a bitter finish. Feel is medium with an oily feel, but slightly dry on the finish. Nice flavor to have in the original Enjoy By.

Happy 4th of July weekend, NBS! Just got back home after lots of driving to say goodbye to my best friend who will be heading to the west coast for a year on a medical fellowship. Sad to see him go, but it's a great opportunity and I'm really happy for him. Unfortunately, we only had a couple of Coronas to enjoy, so now I'm back home and craving some good new beer!

This is one that I've never heard of before. A friend of mine brought it back from Belgium for me and the notes on the back of the bottle are in French and Dutch. What I can make out is that is brewed for Brewery Corsendonk and has a best before date of 7/7/18. I believe all of Corsendonk's beers are contract brewed but I could be wrong.

The beer pours a medium/deep amber color and hazy with a huge fluffy white head that shows great retention. Interesting aroma, at first you get green apple fruitiness then you get caramel and herbal hops. The taste is sweet initially but gives way to an intense dryness that stays with the beer throughout. Thin mouthfeel with a tingling sensation from the strong carbonation.

Overall, this has a lot of characteristics of a good Belgian ale but could benefit from a little bit more body. I would not recommend it but am happy I got to try it. Cheers and have a great rest of the long weekend!

I really had a tough time deciding on a beer tonight. Heck, for a while I was thinking about skiping NBS. In the end, I decided to participate, and pop open this beauty.

This is a damn good BA beer. It has got the flavor of the barrel, but unlike other BA beers, this isn't a booze bomb. Delicious.

Seems like I've been drinking tons of DIPAs lately, so I've been on the lookout for things darker or different... I tend to crave an occasional imperial stout to offset the hoppier D/IPAs, but I don't pass up things like this, from Clown Shoes...

Bluegrass Billionaire bourbon barrel barleywine, 12.5% abv...

Had a couple of small first pours like shown above; below is the finishing pour...

Good, but not exceptional - bearing in mind that this is a bourbon barrel barleywine, which to me translates to an almost automatic win, so "good" is still like, "awesome," y'know? - but, as compared to others of its kind, on-point but fairly typical. Boozy caramel and bourbon mixed with orchard fruit sweetness; drying notes from the wood barrels; a slightly sticky aftertaste. Has a little sting of alcohol atop the sugars and dates, shellacked ever so slightly with resin. Medium-bodied, with a smooth slipperiness and subdued carbonation. Don't take a pass if you spot one.

Cheers - here's to new beer in your glass...

I'm back for another because my fridge is overstocked with hoppy goodness and the clock keeps ticking. I'm probably going to regret this around mile 2 in tomorrow's 5k, but what the hell, it's a holiday. A pint can of Oneida from Modern Times that @2beerdogs bestowed upon me when we recently met up at Greenbush in Michigan. Let's pour this tall boy in my trusty 13oz. tulip and bring it home!

Pours a transparent brilliant gold color leaving a generous finger of egg white foam. The smell is weak citrus and pineapple. Flavor is passionfruit, pineapple and some floral notes in the finish. The feel is crisp and clean with a semi dry finish.

A flavorful easy drinker that fit the bill while grilling up some marinated chicken breasts and siracha honey barbecue drummies. It's crisp and clean with a kiss of hop goodness minus the extra alcohol that I don't need this late in the game. I enjoyed it while grilling and drank the second one with dinner. My score was 3.91 / rDev -1.0%. Thanks Derek for another enjoyable beer!

Ommegang Gnomegang, 9.5% ABV, 26 IBU, style is belgian strong pale ale. Pours medium thickness, golden, with a huge foamy head that lingered and left lots of lacing. Nose is lemon and yeast, taste follows, slight bitter close. Good mouthfeel. Overall OK, can't call it a new favorite. Bought a 4-pack on a lark, to serve a friend's wife who is into gnomes. They didn't make it over this weekend so am trying one for NBS.

Good evening NBS, thanks Maria for the great kick off. We are spending some time out in this great land of ours.
Spent time with friends in Ohio for the last few days. Really enjoyed time at Jackie O,s the staff and the brewing team led by Brad are doing wonderful things, Thanks to Art for the tour of the new space, and Brad for the remote site visit.
Today i have the pleasure of experiencing the 2016 release of Evelyn. An absolute delight of a beer.
    Full score is 4.08

This is the 2016 version, listed as a sour brown ale aged in oak barells with rapsberries.
A - mahogany color, gentle carbonation, stunning cap of loose froth.
S - Berries, toffee, beautiful earthy undertones, some alcohol rises through, with warmth the melding of the rapsberrie and the oak stitch together and are inspired
T - The base is a solid malt with a bit of light roast, sour component is delicate, the rapsberrie contribution is assertive but not overpowering. Time in the barrel only accetuates the flavors adding some vanilla.
M - Medium in body, soft on the palate, the water profile is neutral. Tartness creaps in, the the palate response reflects the tension between the base and the final product. Wonderfully balanced the feel is delightful.g
O - What a treat this is, sour, and tart. This release shows real skill, the use of the rapsberry is spot on, adding to the nose, while not dominating. The barrel touch is refined.
    A true delight.
    Cheers

We think some kind of chihuahua mixed with pincher. And his nose is pretty long like a dachshund. The chihuahua is obvious, but the rest is interesting. He's 10 pounds of mystery. :stuck_out_tongue:

Had to grab some of this after the positive reactions I've seen so far. It definitely opened up a lot more as it warmed up a bit. Subtle mango and pineapple with a bit of spicy hops...honeysuckle too
Mouthfeel is the highlight of this beer...slick on the tongue and slightly sticky
