For bottles, you're right. But GG's has Freakcake for $16.99/crowler, and if memory serves, Half Hitch is <$9/crowler when it's on, so there is better value to be had. Maybe once GN grows more and is able to produce enough to keep their taproom stocked with enough left over to send out some kegs, prices may fall closer back to the norm. I've been tempted to assume the pricing was at least partially based on novelty of the beers, but maybe it really is just what they've stated: a new, small brewery (no real economies of scale) with a high rent.

Ill say this. If Block 15 Hop shop, 3 Magnets Little Juice smoothie, Fat Heads/Breakside Pulp Free were as easy to acquire/drink, then I probably wouldn't end up paying the premium for GN (even though GN beers are different from those). if you are in the mood for "that style" of IPA, there just aren't very many options that are either a) available or b) done as well as GN does it.

And while many like the typical West Coast style just as much (if not more), the fact is that i can go to literally ANY bar in Portland and get a pint of IPA that is pretty damn close to the same flavor as boneyard, BBs, etc. etc.

As always, it comes down to supply and demand. If 10 other breweries the area start producing the same style and knock it out of the park like GN, im guessing they will have to consider their pricing structure.

FYI, GN Crowlers are $12 for their core IPA's. Only beers over 8% are $15.

I can't disagree, but assuming that takes place (and I think it likely, given the current success and demand for the style), what does that tell you about GN's pricing?

As always, GN can charge whatever price they want, for whatever reason, but if the current premium is tacked onto the price, just because right now they're making something fairly unique (for the area), and they feel as if they've currently "corned the market" for this style beer... I'm not sure I want to support a brewery like that.

Of course this is all just speculation. GN may have a perfectly legitimate reason for the prices they're charging. I just haven't heard it yet (other than the argument that they're simply charging what they feel the market will bear).

Structures in Bellingham and Urban Family in Seattle also do the hazy NE IPA thing. Hell, Urban Family's Best Laid Plans IPA has been canned a few times.

MarketWatch has a great interview today with Great Notion's founders on how they've tried to succeed as Portland's 65th brewery, and some great tidbits on their processes, inspiration, and intentions with many of their beers.

is there a special release? I have been three times, twice I have been before they open since we tend to hit them on the way out of Portland, and there has never been a line yet. The only reason we were there before they open even was they open a little late for us, we tend to get going early.

So, yeah. The de garde collab was lining up and closed at 10:30.
Keep in mind there were a fuck ton of out if towners for the degarde party.
This great notion... will be good till open... imo.

Yeah it's Peach Punch,a juicy IPA collaboration with Block 15. First 100 people in line can get 2 crowlers of it. After that it's draft only. I'm sure it's mainly beer traders in line.

Why not 200 crowlers, one per person? That would make more sense and be less shitlord-worthy.

Because then how would all the traders amp up GN's trade value?

Stopped by last night after a hike. Peach Punch was pretty good, better than Great Cow but I didn't enjoy either of the fruited collabs are as much as their regular lineup. Stash on the other hand... I could drink that all day, really great beer.

They're canning Peach Punch as well on Block 15's canning line, not sure when those will get released or what distro will be like though.
