Flying into Milwaukee and driving up to Sheboygan for a weekend later this month. What are the best beer stores between those points? Not hunting for anything too exotic, but a place that carries a mix of WI beers (CW, Karben4, NG) and Midwest-only brews like TG and Surly would be great.
Discount is a good suggestion, but kind of out of the way (~10 miles west of the highway, along all city streets). I would hit the Sendiks in Franklin and visit @Vitacca . Just south of the airport and pretty close to the highway that'll get you on your way up North.
Sendiks in Franklin and Discount are about equal as far as being out of the way. I would say Discount is a better option of the two for overall selection.
Thanks all. Will definitely try to hit Discount en route. In case I need reinforcements mid-weekend, what's the best store in/around Sheboygan itself? Looking forward to 3 Sheeps as well!
Otto's on Brown Deer Road is pretty short step off 43. Festival Foods in Sheboygan is worth a peep too.
I am heading near the Sheboygan area to do some camping the first week of August, does the Tap Room at 3 Sheeps offer beers other than what I can buy at my local store? If so, do they sell these special beers via a growler? Thanks.
According to their FB page, they do fill growlers. Not sure if that's for everything or not. Also, according to their taproom FAQ: The Tap Room will be open six days a week and will showcase a range of 3 Sheep brews, including small-batch beers and prototypes not otherwise available to the public. There will also be a beer that will only be available on tap in Sheboygan County. We will also test new beers every other week that will be featured there.
Thanks Al, I checked their site but could not find anything that lists a tap line-up or the ability to purchase growlers. I forgot t ocheck their Facebook, I will need ot check their facebook and make a request. Thanks again for your input.
Post-Sheboygan recap (posting for future reference - thanks to all who threw out ideas) - Festival foods was a great, inexpensive place to stock up on local beers - New Glarus (including some of the fruit sours), Central Waters, and others. Most of the Surly line there too, including Todd (although I passed at 17/4pk). In town, Superior Liquors was a good pick as well. 3 Sheeps is now in a new facility north of downtown (had just opened shortly before I got there). Nice folks some very good beers (Happy Summer IPA, Uber Joe, and a new cascade pilsner were the best IMO) Finally, had a great meetup with @StayWhatYouAre2, who's a super nice guy with some awesome WI stouts he was kind enough to share. Hopefully will head back at some point!
