I just wanna know about 3-4 beers you really wanted to try but were oh-so-close, either due to missed tappings/festivals, trades that fell through, wife said it was too expensive and you spend too much money on beer :flushed:, etc.

My list isn't too impressive since I've never done any trades. Here are mine, in no particular order:

Magic Rock Bourbon Barrel Aged Bearded Lady: Just missed it on tap while in England. But the Good King Henry Special Reserve I did find definitely made up for it.

Alesmith Speedway Stout: I was at a bar that had this tapped right around when I was getting into craft beer. Didn't know how special this was until after the fact. Always a good excuse to go to Cali on vacation within the next couple of years.

Saint Arnold Pumpkinator/Divine Reserve #9: I love pumpkin beers and was really excited when I found out a nearby bar would have this on cask when I was in TX. I had a lot of work to do so I went the next day but it was gone. Doubt I'll be back in TX anytime soon, so this one was a bummer.

Goose Island BCBS: My state doesn't get distro, so while in England I tried to find it since it's purportedly everywhere. It seemed like it had always just sold out from whatever bottle shop or bar I went to that stocks it.

    Vent away.

Saw a bunch of 3Floyds six packs at a grocery store in green bay a few years ago before they stopped distributing that far north in Wisconsin and before I knew what they really were. I thought the artwork was dumb so I passed...

CL Flaming Fury – picked it up, saw the price tag of ~$30 for 375ml and said "Nah." Let that white wale swim away. Oops.

Happened a few years ago while traveling on business. Went to a place in Syracuse, NY who had Dreadnaught on the chalkboard, my eyes bugged out of my head and that was a no brainer choice being an IPA lover and having never tried this beer. The waitress came back a few minutes later and much to my dismay was told the last bottle was sold about (3) minutes prior - Aaaaargh!!!!!. (I was able to find it fresh in Chicago the following year so all is good.)

Someone brought a case of Hop Slam to a party I did not attend a few years back. Never got over that. Also missied out on Lagunitas Sucks and Parabola.

Not to one-up you, but my friend and I traveled to Portsmouth in 2007 to try Kate the Great. When we arrived, my friend ordered a Kate with his lunch. Because I was having fish and chips, I thought I'd hold off and have mine as dessert. His Kate came and he enjoyed it immensely. After the meal, I ordered my own glass. My heart sank as the waitress walked back to the table empty handed. "The keg just kicked," she said. I went on to tell her how Kate was the #28 rated beer in the world, blah, blah, blah, to which she replied, "Oh, I had no idea." She said there might be a bottle left in the gift shop. I promptly flew out of my seat and grabbed the last bottle in the gift shop fridge. A few months later, I wound up happily trading my bottle for a Dark Lord.

The best thing about Speedway is it's a year round beer and it's outstanding! If you ever take a trip west you should have no problems finding it.

Not a one up at all, pretty cool you were able to grab the last bottle, though. Do you regret trading it? I guess in either situation, you still came out a winner so that's a good thing! Whatta bummer, though, guess you won't wait next time!! (A similar thing happened to me recently but not with a beer with Kate's status.) Live and learn for both of us!

Lately? Easy, the chance to tick another rye beer, FFF Rye'd Da Lightning. Missed out on my chance and now I have to wait til it gets retired and off the Top 50 Rye Beer list before I can sleep soundly :slight_frown:

That's one thing I'm happy about having stayed the summer in England. Lots of Cantillon (at least its classic gueze, kriek, and rose) all over the place for like $6-7 USD, and sometimes on tap for just a few pounds.

That's a stomach punch. At least you got something good out of it though. Did you eventually get to try Kate?

If you can get your hands on Rye'da Tiger. Imo it was definitely better than Lightning.

It's always interesting to see people say this about Speedway. If you come to SoCal you will find it everywhere for around $9.99 a bottle.

Before I was into craft beer, about 3 years ago I was offered BCBS and I turned it down. I regret not picking it up...

The store I frequent to most got two and a half cases of 08' BCBS this summer and stashed it in the back for their good customers (like myself) and I only bought one bottle. Not sure what I was thinking...
