In town for the weekend. What's the most interesting stuff that I can't get in MN? Preferably in cans.

Good Lord. Crow Bar and Pappadox. Many a weekend in collage featured me or a buddy getting booted out one and crawling across the street to the other. Just aweful places.

I don't buy a lot of canned beer and haven't had many of the locals, but Fernson is a canned Sioux Falls beer. I know there are others out there that will chime and and say they don't like Fernson - I'm just saying judge for yourself. Should be able to try them at their taproom on 8th St first, and other places.

Fernson beer is below average. They don't have cans but Woodgrain and Hydra (bottles only) are better. I know everyone says drink local but when your options are subpar at best I have to continue to drink out of state beers!

    Quality > Geography

    I couldn't agree more.

Fernson is available in cans. Have seen them in several liquor stores in Sioux Falls.

Yes they have farmhouse ale and IPA cans never said they didn't I was just advising proceed with caution their beer isn't anything special and rather forgetable compared to other beer out there.

I also forget about Take 16 not Sioux Falls but Luvern they make some good beer I would try that over Fernson for sure but think they only have bottles no cans.

Well said! Glad someone agrees. I refuse to drink local just because everyone says you should when I don't like anything local as much as MN beer for sure. If there ever is something local that is worth drinking I would gladly support them until then mainly Surly continues to take my money!

Who is the "everyone" that is saying you should drink local over quality? Not me. I was just answering the guy about a local beer that is canned that he can try and decide for himself. I am not a fan of Fernson either, but I'm not going to bash them for it.

I don't think he was talking about this forum. Local Local Local is the mantra here in Omaha/Lincoln too even though the vast majority of it doesn't stack up favorably to what is available from outside our state.

Exactly we are on the same wavelength!

Not singling anyone out or this forum it is just the craft beer mantra these days like you should feel bad for not supporting local. If I don't like it I am not buying it just because it is local. I actually would buy some Woodgrain beer if it were canned or bottled I am not a huge growler fan. I hate drinking beer quick I like a six pack or so to have more times drinking something. Hydra beer is ok bottled but they are like half brewing stuff local right now and only really like the Death Breath.

And BrettHead yeah I was always curious if Omaha had anything good down there. LuckyBucket sort of got me going with the Certified Evil but I have sort of dropped drinking them lately. I do need to try their IPA heard it is decent. I like some Zipline beers as well. Was going to try Brickway but they seem to get low end reviews and their stouts are dang expensive.

Brickways Stouts were great on tap and an infected disguisting mess in bombers.

Oh man glad I didn't buy any then. Sioux City has some bombers can't remember which one though. I have enough beer been trying to drink down my stash but thought about trying something from Brickway sometime.

I'd recommend going to the tap room in Omaha and visiting crescent moon, infusion, and Nebraska brewing while you're down there. You can pick me up in Sioux city on your way.

If you go to Crescent Moon ever you should go to Farnam House and Scriptown, two breweries right in the area. Also, pop into Beertopia right next to the Moon and say hi and buy beers.

I realize nobody has posted on this in nearly 2 years, but I'm going to be in Ortonville in July and was wondering if if would be worth the hour drive to Watertown. Is there anything notable distributed to SD, that I can't get in MN? Does Watertown have a decent bottle shop?

Any info would be greatly appreciated!
