SN brews never disapoint, as long as the date is good.

Agreed totally under rated beer....i have to admit because it is so common i also have taken it for granted, "seeking a better IPA"
BTW i like the bombers, keeps me honest:confused:

Has anyone ever done a bottle vs can blind side by side for this or really any IPA? Been meaning to try this.
And +1 to the Torpedo worship.

I'd have to complain to your store managers or send a message to your area SN rep. SN prides themselves on fresh beer and I'm guessing the rep won't like hearing about year-old Torpedo cans sitting around on shelves.

I'm guessing the rep won't like hearing from me either, or that has been my experience so far. Dealing directly with the store manager has been somewhat effective though.

Man, four years have really flown by!

Nowadays, I don't drink Torpedo often due to many reasons: my increased preference for new-school IPAs, my decreased preference for malty yet bitter ones, SN's high prices in MD (a 12 pack is $17-$18 here), SN's MD distributor being lousy, and far more available choices nowadays. All of SN's beers tend to show up on the shelves where I live around two months old.

SN Torpedo is both a decent IPA and one of the cheapest IPA options as well, but there are just even better ones out there now adays that I tend to gravitate my buying towards better vs. cheap. Plus I don't buy quantity of the same beer so it just doesn't fit me as a consumer.

Now that they're making it around the block from me in NC I swear it's even better than it used to be...Has replaced regular Pale Ale as my fave SN..They should have a plaque for me there somewhere at the new brewery...I seriously helped fund it!

I love Sierra Nevada beers! And am a huge IPA fan! But the Torpedo has an ingredient my palate doesn't agree with. My buddies think I am crazy. Maybe I am, haha. But I prefer the Celebration, without question. And, OT, why can't SN do celebration year round?

Its a fantastic beer! I currently have some in my fridge. Love the freshness and QPR....but I love that it comes in cans!

I bought a 12 pack on sale last evening in Greenwood. The "packaging date" on the box was May 27th. Not super fresh, but the sale price swayed me into the purchase. One of the places I mentioned earlier with the "aged" Torpedo was the large Cork Liquors down in Columbus. Thanks for asking.

Greenwood is out of my control but Columbus is in my territory, I will have the salesman keep an eye on it and make sure fresh product replaces anything dated.

I actually just passed on Torpedo for Two Hearted on Sunday. I haven't had either in a while, and I looked at both for a good couple minutes. While I don't regret choosing the Two Hearted, I've already picked Torpedo for my next beer run.

What are some of your "craft" (or "crafty") options that are cheaper than $40 a case? Also, what are some $40 a case IPAs that you prefer to Torpedo? Not insinuating anything, just genuinely curious.

What was your experience like dealing with the SN rep?

I'm pleased to say my experience (mostly telephone calls) with all the breweries and their reps has been positive. There is a fine line though between voicing a concern and complaining. My late Father used to say, "Any damn fool can complain and most of them do", so I pose my thoughts as concerns and try not to waste anyone's time. There's a limit to what they can do but at least I can make them aware of how their product is being handled at the receiving end of the chain.

Things being what they are with our local anti alcohol bias (our County is still dry) it's an uphill struggle even to get store managers interested in change because some of them would rather not be selling beer in the first place.

Just about every seasonal released by local and regional breweries can be had for under $40 a case.

Torpedo just doesn't lose on price it is always months old. I don't mind spending an extra 5-10 to get a week or two old double ipa. There are too many to list.

OP is right about Torpedo. Probably needs even more love from us.
