Just passed by a case of alpine nelson in the area. Not real keen on buying the whole thing though. Might be interested in splitting it or buying and trading some of it though. Think it was around $90/12.

You might want to check the date on those bottles before you buy it.

Yeah after I left I should have. Anyways I'm passing on it as I'm not interested in a whole case.

If someone else is interested it's at JR's in rochester

Won't be able to trade it. Now that GF picked it up, it's everywhere.

Alpine is now owned by and brewed at Green Flash, hence the massively expanded distro.

They aren't making nelson anymore. Their hop supplier for Nelson hops closed down. Other than on draft at the brewery, I don't think anyone will see fresh Nelson.

The picture is of Nicolas Cage from The Vampire's Kiss if that helps at all. Not sure how that ties into their Breakfast of Champions beer. Special release?

they're doing a new boc beer. Pasty white stout aged on leather, psoriasis flakes, and 5'o'clock shadow shavings.

Breakfast of Champions. Last year they had a few bottled variants as well. I love that beer, but drink them fresh as last year some of the bottles got crazy carbed after several months.

    Hi guys,

I'm planning on taking a small "beercation" in the next few weeks and one of the two places I'm considering in Pittsburgh. I'm in Allentown, so its around a 300 mile trip across the state. I'm planning on it being 3 days/2 nights. So I've figured leave early in the morning and then have the rest of that day, the whole next day, and the first part of the third day to visit breweries.

I've browsed through this thread a bit but it's hard to cover 330+ pages. I'm positive it comes up a lot for you guys but, what are the "must see" breweries? I've done some research and the breweries that seem to always come up are Roundabout, Brew Gentlemen, Voodoo, Draai Laag, Grist House, Hitchhiker, Insurrection Ales, Fat Heads, East End, Spoonwood, and Hop Farm. Now, if it was up to me, I would hit them all. But since I'm only around for 2-3 days, and I'm flying solo this time, I know I won't get to hit all 11 of them. So if you have to pick the "essential" stops which ones would they be?

Also, I'm not very familiar with Pittsburgh so what is the best way to travel from brewery to brewery? Leave my car at the hotel and taxi/bus around? Are places close enough to walk? Do most places have designated parking to drive to? Or park in a city lot/tower?

    Thanks in advance!

Drive to Voodoo and Brew Gents for one trip. They are essentially across the river from one another. Both have fairly easy parking areas (lot at BG, street at Voodoo).

Hit Fat Heads and Pipers one trip. Can walk from to the other, park anywhere around 19th and Carson.

Then you can do Roundabout, Grist House and Draai Laag one trip. Pretty easy drive between the three of them.

    Nice, thanks for the reply!

So parking shouldn't be an issue at any of these places then?

Haven't heard of Piper's. Is that a brewery or just a bar? And the ones you mentioned are higher up on the "must see" list then the others, right?

Pipers is a well respected bar on the South Side near Fatheads. If you go to Roundabout, I would also take a look at East End Brewing about 5 minutes away.

Agree with @Dogleg and would add maybe Carson Street Deli to the Southside swoop, if you've the time. While their tap list is smaller, they may have additional locals on that you don't see elsewhere (check online--if they overlap with Pipers, I would stick with Pipers and Fat Heads for efficiency's sake).

Also, your path might take you very near Troegs and Pizza Boy (Hershey/Harrisburg area). Troegs's distro is pretty wide, and while it's a nice space (they just updated with new foeder room), it's probably not worth the hour or two you'd need; but Pizza Boy (Al's of Hampton) has 100 beers on, about 30 of them house. They don't allow tastes, but you can probably check/trust BA for ratings and grab a few crowlers-it's like a candy store. Just don't eat the pizza or talk to anyone--smash-and-grab job.
