In the "under the radar" category, Saco River Brewing Company in Fryeburg, ME (right by North Conway) looks like they're making progress if their FB page is to be believed. I had their Clearwater Pale at 302 Roadhouse in Fryeburg over the weekend and for a first effort, it is very tasty, fragrant and juicy as is all the rage these days. If I'm reading correctly these are the same folks who run the Good Beer Store, also in Fryeburg, a good spot for sure when I'm at my friend's lake house on Lovewell. Hoping to try more from them soon!

Bone Up Brewing's tap room won't be opening for another couple of months but they will start releasing their beer to bars this week. According to Facebook they will be hosting a release party for their first beer "Honey n Hops Summer IPA" at Maverick Marketplace Cafe in East Boston this Thursday at 7:30pm.

I drove by last week and they are still in full construction mode. Bare studs for walls, etc. I don't think it's going to be mid-July, but that's par for the course it seems.

According to a FB post on June 6, their equipment was in place and they were just waiting for a gas hookup to brew their pilot batch. I assume the taproom still has a ways to go, though.

Update from Lamplighter Brewing: "We have all equipment 95% of the way hooked in, and are waiting on some final inspections before firing up the system. Raw ingredients are ordered and arriving next week, and the place is looking good and shiny. Admittedly, the taproom construction still has a way to go, but at least there's brewing in the immediate future."

To update on my previous post, Saco River Brewing officially opening next Saturday.

Meanwhile, down here in Salem, Notch is getting pretty close to opening. All up to the state now. Pumped!

So. Many. Breweries. I believe there's one trying to open up in Easton called Shoveltown, but they're a ways out

From Worcester Magazine: "Rumor has it that Worcester will be getting a new brewery in Redemption Rock Brewery & Public House, set to open over at the Hanover Theatre's Performing Arts Conservatory sometime soon."

I was away camping for the weekend (drinking some Left of the Dial, as luck would have it) and missed Notch's surprise grand opening this weekend. Apparently ran out of beer well ahead of their 10 pm closing - which means the word has spread. Really excited for them and can't wait to try it when they reopen later this week.

My parents tried Stone Cow on opening day and shared a growler with me of their IPA. Extremely solid, sounds like they're worth checking out.

I really want Stone Cow to succeed; I love the farm, BBQ, brewery combo, but their beers need to meet the standard of what you used to be able to buy in their package store before their license changed from a BYOB. I don't mind paying more for fresh local craft beer, but I was underwhelmed with their initial offerings. I will check back at the end of the BBQ summer to see what progress they have made.

Love the new breweries, but please don't do us any favors and open more mediocre ones. Just wasted $9 on a four pack of Broad Brook Hopstillo, ho hum, why bother.
