Sadly I bet there are people signing up themselves, their spouses, children, dogs, cats etc for the lists and next yrs list too.

Apparently your area doesn't have "special release poachers" that spend their entire day driving around the city to snatch up bottles. People followed the trucks with CBS on it. It's sad really...

If the stores didn't use lists, then one person could come in and buy that stores allotment; I guess its just the lesser of two evils.

Last year a person followed the distributors delivery truck from store to store. Thank goodness those store all do lists, or one person would have wiped out the whole city.

Around here most places have a strict limit on limited release stuff (one 4/6 pack, or one bomber), otherwise the resellers would wipe them out in a second.

It should be first come first serve with a limit of one bottle per person or a 4-pack per person depending on the store's allotment. Having a list for next year already is insane. I agree with making friends with the people who work at your local bottle shop...my shop calls me when good stuff comes in.

If your shop calls you when good stuff comes in, then you are on a list and it isn't first come first served.

It's not really a list if it's a friend calling you, but I am at an advantage to get there quickly. This particular place always advertises when stuff is coming in stock, the call is just a reminder. What I am against is reserving bottles, especially way in advance...I also know if one bottle shop that reserved the case of CBS they received for the people who worked there...of course, they are free to do what they want with it, and there are plenty of shops that do it fairly which is the beauty of being able to shop where you want to.

Most places in the Triangle moved away from lists, and went straight to paid clubs. You have to be a member to be able to purchase things like KBS, Hopslam, Ten FIDY, etc. The biggest store in the area just posts it on Twitter, and lets it go that way. No holdsies either. Im normally a fan of this, but since I cant leave my teaching job at like 11 am on a weekday to pick up a bottle of Sexual Chocolate or KBS, i dont really like it.

Limits (and paying attention for returners) can help battle these lunatics (and I've seen their tenacity firsthand).

Also, who cares if they follow the truck? Not everything that comes in is immediately for-sale, if you catch my drift...

I think taking the kids with you on a field trip to teach them about supply and demand would be fine.

relating to my curriculum and class, it would be a nice lesson on alcohol and the effects of alcohol on sensory/motor coordination.

For any retailers, this is a nearly an impossible situation to win. If you put everything out someone will buy all of them. If you save them for regulars then some people will wonder why they aren't regular "enough". If you announce it then people who can't leave work early are disappointed. If you have a list it's probably the best way to handle it. Customers understand that concept.

I always have lists going at my store. For example, of all the Nugget Nectar I've gotten, only 2 cases have hit the floor. It's worse for the rarer stuff, unfortunately. Take KBS...I usually get allotted one case. And my store is in Pennsylvania, which means it all goes to the first person on the list.

Or maybe we could all just calm down about all these "special" releases...?

I wouldn't call the situation unwinnable. I announce when I'm gonna put 'em on sale (often a Saturday morning) and what the limit will be, first come, first served, and things have worked out pretty damn well. I haven't received many complaints at all yet...

would be better if they brewed enough to meet demand. if you have a beer that will sell out rapidly brew more of that and less of you less popular beers

I've yet to encounter this situation. Although, I have a feeling that this year, us in NorCal may start having the same problems the rest of you have getting limited releases.
