Hop head traveling from Ohio to the North Carolina coast and in search of some great NC beers that are available and fresh at most stores/bottle shops. I will be heading east on I-40 through much of the drive and since I'll have a wife and three kids, I have to be quick. I looked at a few places; Sam's Bottle Shop looked like it may be solid. Does anyone have any suggestions?

I received great advice years ago on BA and hit Brawley's in Charolotte when I went to Hilton Head. Thanks again.

@jdoncbus Sam's Bottle Shop is a fantastic idea, there is also Sam's Quik Stop which is the original location but it's not as close to I-40 as the former. What is your final destination?

We are heading to Beaufort, NC, friend from HS and college lives there. I haven't been there in nearly ten years but I recall the beer selection was pretty slim. I checked out the NC IPA thread and the choices were what I expected, anything else hop wise I should look out for?

There is one decent shop somewhat close to Beaufort (Harrika's Brew Haus in Cedar Point, NC) and a new growler spot on Emerald Isle (Goose Creek Growlers).

Check out Harrika's like mentioned above. It should be on your way to Beaufort (or slightly out of the way) from the direction you're coming. The best IPAs in that part of the state are made by WBC. In order to snag crowlers though you'd have to take I-40 all the way to Wilmington and then take 17 up to Beaufort. It's doable but obviously longer than the fairly straight shot of I-40 to I-70 that you were probably planning on.

My personal recommendation is to just stop at Sam's in Durham and load up on enough beer for the weekend. They will have everything you could possibly want that is distro'd to NC. Foothills Jade is probably my favorite IPA outside of stuff from Wooden Robot or WBC.
