    Hey all! I've been lurking on the German forum, but haven't weighed in lately due to starting my own little project back home in Illinois. Glad to see that the hearty beer debates continue.

    Has anyone been drinking any Augustiner Helles or Tegernseer Helles lately? I know that both breweries did some cellar expansion within the past year.... has the "summer sulfur" been dialed down in 2016?

    I did and I was pretty impressed with the beers. Especially the gravity barrel of Kellerbier, but all the beers were good.

    It was in a place across from Füchschen. It was too upscale (or maybe too young:slight_frown:) for our taste.

    I'll have to try the Frankenheim the next time we're there (hopefully in May). After all, I named my homebrewed Alt Spartanheim!

    Oooh, yeah -- uh, no. I haven't even made it to the Hofbrauhaus and that's less than an hour away! :wink:

    I guess there's always distribution... :rolling_eyes::stuck_out_tongue:

    Ha! Yeah, I remember that place. It's a Schlosser branded nightclub. It's still there and still unbelievably loud at night. During the day the place was borderline empty, but after 7 or 8PM it was packed...and I don't think they were selling much beer in spite of the name.
    One of those weird things about Dusseldorf. Schlussel and Fuchschen are these old/traditional bierhalls situated by massive nightclubs. It creates quite the contrast.

    Just to clarify...we are talking about SO2 here, right?

    I will also add that I am a big fan of a hint of SO2 in fresh pale lagers...but I have never gotten this character from Augustiner Helles or Edelstoff.

    I have a road trip to Chicago planned for this Fall. Looks like I might have to work in detours both north and south now.

    The Riggs brewery would not be too far off of one of my semi-frequent road trip routes. A stop is in order sometime.

    It's also in a nice part of Illinois and if you pick the right season to go you can not only stop to drink the beer, you can slide easily find a roadside stand where you can stop and buy freshly picked/cooked sweet corn on the cob and be confident you're eating that corn about as fresh as it gets. (One of the things I miss about central Illinois.)

    Absolutely in the cards. That's one of my wife's fondest childhood spots, so it's a borderline requirement.

    I have a little familiarity with that part of the Midwest, as the wife is from Lafayette IN and had family in Champaigne.

    We get fresh picked sweet corn where we live. The freshest was when we grew our own at the previous house out in the country. Get the water boiling, go out and get some right off the stalk, shuck on the way back to the house, right in the boil. Fresh!
