Lou pepe Gueuze is hands down the weakest Lou pepe of the series. I agree, it lacked complexity

classic gueuze is definitely in my top 3 favorite beers, but I would never ever pay the prices you are suggesting. I just grabbed a 375ml for 7.99 and that is more than what I used to pay but given its rarity these days I complied. If you are not too familiar with the style start with cuvee rene as others have suggested. I think that beer is fantastic for its price point and will give you an introduction to the style.

3F gueuze is another fantastic beer. Fortunately for me, right after we ran out of cantillon there was a dry spell where no gueuze of any kind was to be found. This somehow managed for a plethora of 3F gueuze to fill the shelves. I haven't had the time lately but what I used to do was buy one bottle of 3F gueuze per week and not necessarily drink them right away. You will reward yourself in the long run a lot more doing this than spending nearly seventy dollars on two bottles of a beer you have never tried. Then again if you have the extra money to spend have at it.

Lou pepe Gueuze is for aginig, IMHO it pulls ahead starting after about 3 years of age .vs. Classic. At about 5 years there is no comparison, I'd much rather drink 5 year LP-G than classic, even if the same age. I have no idea why this is BTW, just my experience from drinking lots of Cantillon...

Could be because Lou Pepe Gueuze doesn't have 3 year old lambic in it.

This is a brilliant plan to get him to buy something other than Cantillon leaving more for us. :grinning:

Hey, First I must say, Though I am not claiming to be the master of lambic, I am not a newbie either. Thank you for the suggestions but Cuvee Rene is SHIT, same with anything from lindemans as far as Im concerned. I Only cellar Geuze, so far I only have 3 Brands, 3F, Oud Beersel, and Hanssens. I am a huge fan of this style and Simply Want to try more examples.

Brouscella is straight unblended Lambic, Not Geuze, Im sure thats Why I did not like it. I like the flavor and aroma and everything, Just did not like that it was so watery. Regardless of that I want to try some Cantillon Classic. My quesiton was not " Is this beer good ", Everyone has a different answer for that question, Thats about preference, Im talking about Price. Its 15$ per Bottle, and 30$ plus tax for Shipping. Is That a fair price? If you want to be helpful Please do. But there is no need for sarcasm or to think your better then me or anybody else.

Thank you all for the input.

California never gets loonz, I think Ramirez Liquor got 8 bottles and they were $30 for a 750ml, Healthy Spirits got some as well a couple months ago an it was similarly priced. Shipped, I don't think $65 is that out of line but I would seek out the regular old 3F lineup as a cost effective alternative.

Ask him if you can trade a Black Lotus or a Timewalk for 6 bottles, those are rares.

Really? Shit? That seems a bit extreme. Lindemans is what it is. Cheap and readily available sweetened fruit beers. It's not like they claim to be Cantillon. Their cuvee rene line is authentic and the gueuze is one of the best lower tiered lambics on the market. It's not overtly complex but it's certainly tasty and enjoyable. But whatever, that's like your opinion man.

To answer your question, no. It's not worth $30/pop. But if you're hell bent on trying it then just buy it.

    Just one question:

Are there any reasonably priced houses on the market in your area?

Serious advice. I recently drank a 2002 well cellared oud beersel oude gueuze vielle and it was a drain pour. Oxidized crap really, and I love me some manure on my lambic. I wouldnt recomend the beer for long term storage. For reference, I rated a 2010 vintage a 3.88 and I gave cuvee rene a 3.78.

Yes i'd say this is worth it. Take into consideration I'm a Cantillon fanboy. but i had a 2005 Classic Gueuze and it was great. If you enjoy the typical Belgian funk over the (a bit more, in my opinion) tamed American variety, the gueuze should suit you well. Don't drop the money on expectation though; in that, you should get it if you enjoy gueuzes and Belgian funkies, but don't just buy it on reputation, simply because of the price... if that makes any sense.

Maybe give Rene another shot? I find them directly comparable. I would probably take Lindemans over OB actually. OB's almost like water to me. To flat out call it shit is just not true and it's priced fairly.

From what everyone is saying I do beleive I will give it another try. Thanks again for all the advice. The bottle Of Cuvee Rene I had was from a local Bevmo with poor Temperature control. Ill grab from my local bottle shop and see how it is now.

If you think Cuvee Rene is shit you really aren't going to appreciate Cantillon or any other top tier gueuze. You sound like you're pretty new to this gueuze game...

Not for that price. Pick up a Lindemans Gueuze Cuvee Rene or a Hansenns Oude Gueuze. Girardin is excellent too.

Right about where you said Cuvée Rene was shit and looped it in with their sweetened lambics I stopped caring what you had to say about anything.
