I am rolling with a nice balance. I don't like a big up front hit from it, so for me anyway I like to notice it but blended well so to say.

My current 'standard' for Gose is the Ritterguts Gose. Fantastic beverage. I like Jammer, and very much dislike Otra Vez. Westbrook to me is too tart. I'm also not a Kimmy fan.

Trouble though seems to be everyone is putting fruit in them. I don't dislike that, but I also like a well done clean Gose. I do like the blood orange Gose from Anderson Valley, along with every Fruitlands offering from MT.

Stylistically it should taste like lightly salted sea water (even better if they use sea water) and arm sweat mixed together with a touch of lemon that gives off a hint of tartness but doesn't taste sour, that's the perfect Gose for me. Even as I write it, I can't believe I enjoy them but I do! Kimmy, Reubens and LTM from Quebec are all great examples. I like the salt noticeable but not overpowering, that set's it apart for me.

Some of the fruit additions are quite neat too, not all work but I've had some good one's at fests.

Are we talking about american gose or traditional?

American sour bomb gose Im ok with a little more salt because of how much sourness there is.

Like most beers, I think that in my opinion most people prefer a proper balance. I don't have much experience with Gose's because I'm straight up addicted to American Wild Ales right now but I would think that I would prefer a little amount of salt, probably on the Unicorn tears scale. I think this because I prefer all my sours to have plenty of sourness and tartness. But then again, I don't have to much experience with Gose's so WHO KNOWS?! Might just have to start trying some more Gose ales thanks to this thread.

I thought the new Jammer was okay, but a little too salty, and a little too malty. My favorite gose is Two Evil's Geyser Gose. Very tart, lemony, with a subtle/wheaty malt profile. My other favorite is Stillwater Artisinal Ale's Gose Gone Wild, which is dry-hopped and has awesome citrus and tropical notes.

Was a bit too much for me as well. Anderson Valley less so but candidly--give me a "beer."

Gose's aren't so much a beer to my taste as well, more like malted whatever that Mikes makes. Maybe adding tequila to Westbrook would work.

The first Gose I had was "balanced" or "unicorn tears." I had one since that was more "margarita" and I'd wished it wasn't quite so salty.

From those choices probably "unicorn tears". Westbrook and similar ones that have it cranked to 11 taste nothing like authentic German goses, and aren't what I'd describe as "refreshing" or whatever they're going for.

substitute Tecate with Natty Boh and the salt with Old Bay and you can be on the shores of the Chesapeake.
