    Starsan harmful?

Yeah, if you don't mix it right I guess it could be... So is bleach...

Bleach is good if you need to deep clean, or have an infection and want to bomb it all to death.. I just don't like the smell, and the fact you have to rinse like hell.

Follow directions correctly and Starsan is safe.. They use it pretty much at all your local eateries and deli's... At some point regardless of homebrew.. You've ingested some I bet.

A food grade sanitizer that is diluted then drained then the remnant residue is diluted by any beer that fills the vessel? Not sure what the odds are its really harmful to your health at that point.

Not when used as a no-rinse sanitizer, which is what the OP asked about. Isn't rinsing a no-rinse sanitizer a bit counterproductive?

I suggested he use StarSan, which is meant to be used as a no rinse food grade sanitizer.

Bleach is good for a soak of parts that you want to destroy ANYTHING on them, and then rinse it, which is more than just one rinse, and then use starsan before you put it in line on your brewing process.

Some people are sensitive to the chlorine smell of the bleach, even when used in small amounts and in conjunction with the water and the vinegar.
I'll use bleach for an overnight soak of stuff that had sours, or something funky on them, or if I suspected an infection might be taking place, or if something looks particularly dirty. I'll rinse like hell as I'm not using bleach as a no rinse.

I'm pretty sure Star San is a fine product. But, it's also the creator of Star San who is often sited for describing the effective use of bleach as a no-rinse sanitizer.

Answering the OP with "Just buy some damn Star San. It's $1 per 5 gallons.." seems to be something other than concern for (questionable) sensitivity to its use as a no-rinse sanitizer.

I was out of Starsan and needed something in a pinch. I've used it before, bleach, vinager, with good results.. Atleast homebrew42 answered my question, you actually don't have to rinse it when done right.
