Unfortunately Double Trouble is not bottled anymore, will be sold on tap only at brewery.

Too much of it sat on shelves for far too long the prior two years. I won't be surprised to see this back in bottles in another year or two.

Devil Dancer sits around here for about a year at some places. THAT should be draft only before Double Trouble if you ask me.

There's BA Redankulous at the brewery.......intriguing. But I'm really hoping for BA Sumatra for the next Backstage brew.

Agree. Not that it's a bad beer, in fact turns into a nice barleywine as it ages, but the price is insane.

Double trouble deserves more love than it gets, they just make way too much of it same with dark penance. I could stomach them skipping redankulous though.

I still have a soft spot for Devil Dancer, it doesn't sell well but at least it holds up. The last time double trouble came out the first round was at least 4-6 weeks old. I think if they do bring back double trouble they should really consider canning it. personally I thought anything more than a couple months did bad things to that beer.

Backwoods Bastard is highly under-rated. It's got to be my favorite Founders release of the year. Redankulous is indeed excellent and the Bourbon Barrel aged version far exceeded my expectations - I would love to see that one bottled.

Again, I agree. It doesn't have to be Bolt Cutter, but I wouldn't mind it either! There are far too few good Bareleywines on the market (at least here in Michigan).

What's a good English barlywine that you can get in Michigan ?

There's not a ton (as you probably know), and most of them seem to be seasonal or special releases. Off the top of my head, recent ones I've picked up were from Clown Shoes, Weyerbacher, and Odd Side Ales' Colossal Oversight (better on draft than bottle FWIW). BCBBW is also exceptional. There doesn't seem to be many, so a barleywine (American or English) would be a welcome addition from Founders.

Arcadia Cereal Killer is an English style BW from MI. I believe they also make a barrel aged one, but I've never got my hands on it.

Back to Founder's, I would love to see BA Sumatra...

I already miss Double Trouble and Dark Penance! I think I'll miss DP more because it is easier to find substitutes for DT.

Agreed. For the price and availability it is hard to beat Backwoods Bastard when it comes to barrel aged beers. Will be waiting for the release ever so patiently. :grinning:

I wouldn't call it call it under-rated, at least not round these parts. It is delicious, and for a BA brew, the price is fantastic. I'll gladly pick up 2 cases come November.

How long can you keep BB around - does it cellar well? Not talking aging it years, just wondering if I pick a bunch up this winter to tide me over the summer, will it survive well in the cellar?

It will. I actually prefer it with about 6 months. It has a little edge to it fresh, at least for me and it mellows a little over time. Had one a couple days ago and it was great. '16 KBS tasting great right now too.

Yes, it holds up fine. I've still got a bottle from 2014 and 6 from 2015. I last had a 2014 last October or November, which was about a year after it was bottled, and it was doing great.

I have a few left from a bottling on 10/01/2014, and they are smooth, heady, and earthy. There is also some sediment on the bottom of the bottle that you will have to decide how to handle. It's a yeasty taste, and I mix it in after agitating it loose. Fun beer. Go for it. I suggest a serving temperature of 60. I have a 4 pack from 2015, but it is but a child, and needs to mature.
