True, however, it was a highly coveted release that rubbed it's customers the wrong way.

I find it hard to believe they would lose customers over a rare whale that most people can't obtain anyway. I think the reverse is true, if they inflated the prices on a tiered schedule so more money was going back to the brewer they could (and should) pour that money back into the barrel aging program in hopes of making more of the sought after product. As more is available the price comes down and you'd have happier customers since there would be more product.

Don't forget $30 snifters and $20 commemorative cardboard boxes...

Lol, not sure how you figure any of the money went to the boxes or that the snifter was $30. A snifter, a 10 oz pour and, 2 bombers for $100 was not remotely unreasonable.

I think there is beer that is worth $50 to me. The issue becomes supply and demand
I like that idea, and I agree, if KBBS sells for $1200 on the secondary market, then how is it fair to TG to make $8 or whatever the cost was a couple years ago. The middle man shouldn't be getting that type of profit.

As a lambic-freak I could not more strenuously disagree

    KBBS has always been $15/bottle.

For the MD release, $35 each bottle leaves $30 for the snifter + 10 oz pour + box.

If we are talking higher priced releases- like full secondary - then the snifters and collectible boxes with follow suit.

"Has always been" is much different that "will always be".

Are you saying you think it will be $15 this year?

Assuming it is 12 oz bottles again, there is zero chance it is less than $30...IMHO

Are they even coming out with it this year? I think it's been a good 3 years since the last release.

How about a percentage of bottles at a reasonable price for onsite consumption only? This appeases the locals. The remainder of bottles sold via lottery at the inflated price (where price = demand)? I'm with others in I'd much prefer TG get all of the bottle profit than some opportunistic flippers.

Usually on-site consumption = higher price (at least thats the way it is at other breweries i.e. side project, etc)

I would actually prefer all limited releases be pub only as it cuts out the reseller entirely and it draws people to the business, but if they are set on doing bottles...

I understand. Reasonable meant on par with on-site consumption prices. So let's say $100 for onsite consumption vs $500 for bottle lottery. Numbers here are just being relative.

No. My comment was to simply correct him when saying KBBS has been $8 in the past. I am guessing it will probably be about $30/bottle the next release (pure speculation).

I could be confusing you with someone else and if so I apologize but I seem to recall you making a similar hub-bub about the pricing (and deriding the cost of the snifter/pour/box whathave you) when it was announced back last release so I assumed this comment too was about the last time it had come out. My apologies, cheers.

I'm a huge fan of Side Project's model for limited releases.

    1. On-site bottles for anyone that can make it in a reasonable time period. Limited brews last long enough that anyone that really wants to try the beer can have it. Bottles can be sold at a premium with out too much complaining. DB Derivation was $60/750ml.
    2. Bottle releases where everyone is guaranteed an allotment. Cory determines the size of the allotment by how many people are there right before sales start, so if you are in line you aren't turned away empty handed
    3. Surprise releases for the beginning of the line. If they have something that isn't going to last long, they often release it silently for the first people in line.
    4. Off-site bottles for anything that lasts long enough.

TG obviously has a much bigger capacity and wouldn't fit this model exactly, but it makes a lot of sense to me as a consumer. The only people that get butt-hurt are those looking to trade the beer off, which is the last group of people I would be worried about pleasing.
