Oh and also, one of those Sunny Side Up cans is the Bourbon barrel aged version. There is a sticker on that one. Cheers!
Good call, didn't even see the sticker. Killed Murren River last night as that one seemed to be leaking more, still full of flavor with little carb left. Currently working on Frontside Lipslide, I have a feeling this one may have lost some appeal from the leakage, but still very solid.
Glad the crowlers have still been enjoyable for you. That's the first time I've ever had that happen from Al's.
Tonight seemed like a good night to enjoy my other mystery beer, labeled as over 10%. Poured it into my new glasses, very dark, little carbonation. Taste is very rich, a lot of vanilla and barrel character. Maybe a hint of smokiness coming from the barrel. Could be an adjunct stout, but reminds me of bcbs with less heat. Not really sure what to guess... Tore off the paper Apple brandy barrel noir! Whoa, really enjoyed this one, picked up more barrel and less vanilla as it warmed, really surprised to see it's not an adjuct stout. Thanks, that was delicious @BartS! Followed it up with something lighter: Shuttle bunny! Tasting great, really well balanced.
Just a tip for everyone when sending crowlers. Leave them out over night upside down on a towel before you send.
No worries man, things happen and it's not your fault. Just glad to finally be able to try some Pizza Boy.
..and now for the pr0n.... Christmas came early for me, folks. if even by sheer volume/quantity, @sembo should be in the running among top box -- and by quality, should definitely solidfy him towards the top. Minnesotta, you've got yourself a magician: how do you go and fit 428.6oz into a ~12x12x20 box?! un.real. ...and then also include like a table setting, the snacks, and a change of clothes?! Eric, you've knocked it out of the park, and wow'd me with your generosity. thanks so much, man! the cans... Bent Paddle Cold Press Black - have been hearing good things about them; first tick from this brewery, and as a fellow coffee fiend will be right up my alley; Fair State Co-op Roselle - always interested in new sours from far away breweries Sisyphus Isaac the Fax Man - new beer tick and brewery tick! 25oz crowler of fresh crowler; will plan on a side-by-side with it's rhyming brew, with sweet properglassware, too!! Surly Todd the Axe Man (x2) - awesome; always a welcomed pour; and fresher than i've ever had before - times two! Toppling Goliath PseudoSue - perfect for battling the summer heatwave; so crushable Castle Danger Summer Ale - new brewery tick; excited to expand MN-exposure small format... 3 Fonteinen Oude Geuze Golden Blend - your kidding me. the dude was hittin that want list!! never turn down a 3F. Cantillon Rose de Gambrinus (2014) - siiiiiiiiiick. another want!! Fulton Insurrection - new brewery tick; diggin' the simplistic branding, and excited for more MN-locals Fulton 300 - i feel like MN will be very well represented, when all is said and done; this'll be another hot day solution, no doubt. Central Waters Cassian Sunset - didn't think i'd be able to try this again, was amazing the first time i tried; want-more! Central Waters Cherry Stout - new tick! ..have never been let down by CW's brewer's reserve or BA stuff... sweet. Dark Horse Bourbon Barrel Scotty Karate - another new tick; always down for BA versions which we don't see at all out here Praire Birthday Bomb - a perfect beer to sit on until the upcoming bday; thanks in advance for the early bday gift, yo! large format... Surly Ten - the bottle-art & presentation alone gets me all hot & bothered; is the wax glow-in-the-dark? or was i imagining things? Fair State Co-op Citra Sour - such a fan of citra.. and sours.. boom. Toppling Goliath XHops (Silver) - oh yes. WANT!! Toppling Goliath King Sue - stop it. WANT!! i'm not worthy. Eastlake Kirby Pucker, #8 - interesting one here, as i respect experimentation; curiosity level = high (in a good way)... a beet gose... August Schell Apricot Vista - WANT!! so much sour goodness!! a pair of 750mL challenges... The Challenge beer on the left seemed to have a bit of seepage, so i threw that into the fridge to do the drinking/challenge as soon as i could. Given these are corked/caged large bottles from presumably MN -- and my limited exposure to MN beer (other than Surly) -- this'll be difficult to pin... but after seeing the spread of brews unpacked -- i have total trust that these will be legit. oh yea, and along with the beer... Nut Roll, Bit-O-Honey, fine-looking Sisyphus Brewing glassware (which was used right away), Surly trucker hat (and i'm a baseballcap-wearing-guy, too!), coasters... and if i stylish Eastlake Brewery tshirt! the family (tho sans tshirt)... if i wasn't already hot and bothered, this shot just makes me happy and hot and bothered (so i might've been weird and changed into said tshirt) This was an awesome box. Thanks so much, again Eric, and hoping the chance to have beers flow along a (ninjitsu) VA-to-MN avenue in the future cheers, man!! [standing slow-clap]
Great box as always @sembo My BIF box will land at a Texas business tomorrow. Sorry about the delay on GIF box, that will go out this weekend.
I've got nothing on @whyteboy003 when it comes to packing boxes You've got it - this brewery likes to brew beers similar to other breweries in town and give a nod to them via the naming. Will be interested to see what you think as a comparison. I'm not sure how closely the recipes align, but I know they are both good beers! Not imagining things. It is glow in the dark, a friend tested it. Expecting a creative photo when you post that #VBS ;-) Curious to hear what you think of this one - these guys are an up and comer and are expanding their sour program. They won "best beer" for this one at the beer fest I was at this past weekend. #AwardWinning ha Does anyone else forget what they sent or what they wrapped until they see the pron shots? I totally forgot what the challenge beers were until I saw all the others that weren't wrapped. I've got it now. The non-leaking one will keep plenty well, so no rush. Will give you a chance to get after those hops. Old school MN manufactured candy whalez. Pearson's is in St. Paul, so I couldn't resist tossing it in, although I think Bit o Honey are grandma candies ha. Happy Drinking, Conrado!
To my target: I don't quite have the box ready yet, but I anticipate having this bad boy ready to go by the weekend.
Challenge Beer from @sembo this was the one that showed 'seepage'... so not sure how that it affected it; though it was suuuper frothy/fizzy... eventually settling enough for me to get full pours... my inital take at the time: i'm thinking some saison.. possibly dry hopped; also getting some citrus fruit or some zing of sweetness; possibly aged in (white?) wine barrels; not tart enough to be a berliner/lambic, or acidic enough to be a wild, or salty enough to be a gose; can't tell by the shape of the bottle or the cork/cage.. not too familiar w/ MN/northern breweries -- so if it's not a Surly saison, i'm clueless. a decent brew... refreshing for summer, quite easy/drinkable, would pair well with frou froue foods like cheeses i can't pronounce, or foods with long descriptions and minimal greasiness. and the reveal.... Olvalde Farm & Brewing - The Auroch's Horn, aged on Rhubarb... 10%, ancient style ale brewed with honey, with rhubarb added (olvalde web site description) [BA lists it as a belgian style strong ale] ...yep... never heard of this brewery; ...but it was still some good/tasty drinkin, and the type of beer that i would bring to a local share among others that are always lookin out to expand and trying out out-of-distro breweries; if i knew it was a 10%, i may not have cracked it at ~1130pm last night hahaha.. cheers, nonetheless!
ha! I didn't realize it was that strong! I also feel like a bit of a dick for putting such an obscure beer as a blind taster challenge, because there was no way you'd guess it. But I enjoyed your write-up and think you were spot on describing it. @jonbonfondle - I think they are a super interesting brewery and do some different stuff as a true farmhouse brewery. I enjoy this one and their Ode to a Russian shipwright with spruce tips and their wine cask versions of Rise of the Burgders.
