How is this Goose Island's fault and not the state of Colorado? I understand your pain though. We were on a trek up to the mountains one day and stopped to get beer and didn't because of that strange abv cap.

Is this because you believe Goose Island should be above bowing to this law and should just stay out of the grocery stores? There are tons of brands that do this, and last time I was in Colorado, the price of the 3% was no different from the standard versions from any brewery. I would think that Goose Island would not want to vacate this market and leave it to their competitors.

You're three years late and a dollar short. Brett isn't included in either recipe, anymore, and neither of the beers are stylistically correct otherwise. You might want to pick up your Ray Daniels book and discard it- start reading Janssen's blog, Hors Catégorie Brewing. I think you're in for a rude awakening. Also, check out Milk the Funk Wiki. Come to Philly when you want hug it out and admit your mistakes, but don't wait three years like you did for your reply here...

Robert, I had the pleasure to attend Dave Janssen's Saison/Grisette presentation at the recent NHC (Homebrew Con) and it was excellent!!

Back to the topic at hand, are you stating that Sofie is brewed with no Brett? When did this change take place? Was there a reason for this change?

    Cheers!

It would be a damn shame if it wasn't. I still see pre-2015 bottles every now and then , so haven't had any recent batches.

Yeah, I fairly recently bought two 4-packs and I am cellaring them per your multiple suggestions to do so. If there is no Brett in those bottles I question whether this cellaring process is worthwhile.

    Cheers!

I don't know which beer you're referencing but Sofie is brewed with saison as the primary and Brett brux as the secondary. Matilda is brewed with Belgian yeast as the primary and Brett brux as the secondary.

Thanks. Google didn’t turn up anything about a supposed change either.

Actually, you're wrong entirely. These beers were blends from day one. Typically an 80/20 blend with 20% being a Brett. B. ferment. Again, I don't believe that Sofie is any longer and your sales sheets are out of date. Also, don't trust a rep. They're usually full of it if they're out of market.

I was quoting the sheets, which are provided by the brewery to wholesalers.

It would be nice if you would take us one step further by providing either some documentation or some other way of fact checking beyond trusting an anonymous person making posts.

(PS, Yes I did do a search on the Milk the Funk, but so far have not found any information since it is a rather complex arrangement of information . :-))

At this point I just wish I had more current personal experience with it. The 2014s did have brett, though. I'm still hoping to get some 15s soon, but in the meantime I may just try writing GI directly.

Thanks to both of you guys.

I've noticed 2 new big bottled GI sours on store shelves lately (forget the names). Both look intriguing to buy but price tag was over $25 so I haven't pulled the gun. Any word on what these are and how good they are? Are they worth $25+ a bottle?

I could give you everything your heart desires, but without the name of what you saw I can't help you. I would assume it's either Gillian, Juliet, Lolita, Halia, or Madame Rose.

From recollection I think Gillian and Juliet sound correct. Possibly Halia. I know Lolita well (in beer terms, no lady of the night/harlot or anything).

I have a 2015 Matilda (brewed October 2015) in the fridge that says it was brewed with Brett brux, so presumably it was included until then.

I'm trusting your comments here enough to be taking them seriously, so it's not that. I'm just the sort who would have to see it for myself even if you were Mother Theresa, though .

Yeah, the website says that, so we're already in agreement on that one. Sofie is the fish we're trying to harpoon.
