Sitting here drinking a Gigantic beer, it got me thinking this is one of the very good breweries in Oregon that really get no love from the beer geekery. HUB is another i enjoy. So i just want to do a shout out to the guys at Gigantic ! Their Slip into Darkness was in my top 10 last year. and The Business is in my top 10 so far this year. Yes both unfashionable styles..and maybe that's why i love em!
We just got it in DFW and I'm looking forward to trying a few of their beers. I've only heard good things!
I actually think they get plenty of love. They don't have big releases or small batches but they're well respected. They are creative and at the same time can brew to style. Much love for Gigantic.
I like Gigantic, but I'm never compelled to buy their bottles. I had their La Formidable IPA collab with Beau's Orangic Ales while in Montreal the other week. Good stuff.
I'm a pretty big fan of their IPA's; they've got that big juicy fruit thing going on from the New Zealand hops that really stands out for me. I've also enjoyed their stouts and their recent doppelbock. Plus, their labels are just plain awesome.
Love hearing some love for Gigantic! I know they don't often go after those super beer geeky styles but when they do, they seem to knock them out of the park. Their bread and butter really is producing the less-lauded styles though and doing a damn good job of them. I'm finishing up a keg of their The Business (English Pale Ale) right now and I enjoyed the hell out of it.
I'm a huge fan. Their barrel aged beers - Bourbon barrel MASSIVE! and Brain Damage in paricular - are astounding. I really liked Kiss the Goat, too.
I was actually disappointed with Most Most Premium, but I don't remember if that was barrel aged. Remarkably flat and one-noted.
If it was "Most Premium", it was not barrel aged. If it was "Most Most Premium", it was... But their barrel aged beers tend to be a little flat since they usually age them for 18 months.
I was there Thursday and enjoyed the heck out of it. FYI they had 2013 BBA Massive bottles for sale in the cooler.
Last time I was there, they still had bottles for sale. Surprised that beer didn't get more attention when it came out. It's a monster.
Yup, that's all I ever see up here. I remember when the brewer (apologies for spacing out on his name) left his previous gig to explore new options, it caused quite the little kerfuffle in the PDX scene. Gigantic's beers are very nice, and I've enjoyed them when I've tried them, but, that dreaded 22oz format is the biggest barrier I have to buying more of their stuff.
Their BA beers have great flavor, but are a little (or a lot) FLAT. This is an issue for me, maybe not so much for others. All in all, Gigantic makes really solid beer and sometimes great beer
