I'm doing my first Burlington trip in August. I'm wondering...how many area breweries fill 32 oz growlers from other breweries? I don't really want to buy more growlers and those are the ones I own the most of so I'd love to be able to bring those for fills.

Virtually all of them will fill other peoples growlers as long as they are clean. I can't speak for foam as I've only had beers onsite, but all the others that do growler fills mentioned in this thread will.

I'm heading up to Vermont tonight and will be exploring the area tomorrow. Does anyone know if Fiddlehead or Foam will fill other breweries 32 oz growlers? Thanks!

This is good to know! I have many more 32 oz growlers and am not interested in buying anymore! Thanks.

A bit surprised to hear they would fill 32oz as they list the price for 750's on the menu but I did not see any price for any other size. Did they mention if they charge extra for that, since the 32oz holds more?

Burlington has a ton of good breweries in very close driving proximity.

We generally always stop at Burlington Beer Co and Four Quarters. Neither have a ton of IPAs, but they have plenty of other interesting offerings.

I would keep an eye on what Fiddlehead has each day before you go. Its often just their IPA and nothing else, and not really worth going unless you really want a growler. If they have anything good though, I would definitely recommend stopping there and grabbing a meal at BYOB Folinos next door.

VT Pub and Brewery is a landmark of VT brewing industry and has a nice central location in downtown Burlington. I've enjoyed most of the meals I've had there. Their beers are good but not exceptional. Its a short walk from there to Mad River Distillery and Farmhouse.

Zero Gravity, Citizen Cider, and Queen City are all right next to each other on Pine St.. Worth taking a top there and walking between them.

Only been to Foam once, but I enjoyed it. They are the only place to get House of Fermentology sours and the one we had was excellent. Foam had a lot of nice cloudy ipa offerings on tap when we went.

Magic Hat has a fun location that is cool to check out. Most of their stuff you can find easily on the shelves but occasionally they have interesting limited beers.

Switchback is probably my least favorite VT brewery, but they arent too far away either.

And if you get tired of beer, Groennfell Meadery is a good stop.

Yes they charge extra. I went in yesterday with 32 oz'ers and was told there is a small up charge. Unfortunately I did not have any caps on me and I was unable to fill my 32's. They only sell 750 ml flip tops so they do not carry any screw caps. Ended up purchasing a few 750s and it was well worth it!

I also wondered about the caps, thanks for the information! I used to just throw them all away since Trillium gives new ones each time but have found a couple places that don't have them so try to save them now.

I was in town Saturday (first time) and stopped in Foam, American Flatbread (Zero Gravity), and Hen of the Wood. I wish I had more than one evening there - Burlington is a thriving spot. Tons of good beer and food options. They also had some free concerts and a big festival going on at church street marketplace.

I apologize for resurrecting an old thread, been sifting through some of the older threads including this one...

Heading to Burlington with my family for the first time this weekend. Obviously interested in bars/breweries, but food as well. That's the main thing we're looking to do (any other activities more than welcome as well...Ben and Jerry's, Cabot Cheese etc.). No kids, all adults, we did Portland, ME last year and loved it (pretty much just did the brewery/bar/restaurant thing).

We also plan a day trip to Stowe (going to Burlington for three days, so maybe the middle day).

Also, staying at the Marriott, so in a solid location for getting places.

    For Burlington, I've got...

    -Foam Brewers

-Might as well do Queen, Citizen, Zero Gravity if they're right next to each other. Plus we want to hit up Flatbread for pizza (I hear it's awesome).

    -Hen of the Wood

    ?

    For Stowe...

Just planning on hitting up the Alchemist for now...which should be fairly quick. Just staying for a day trip then back for dinner in Burlington...so not sure what else to check out for food...etc.

Any extra recommendations (breakfast, lunch, dinner, beer bars) would be much appreciated.

Thanks in advance! This forum has helped me so much in the past with Portsmouth and Portland.

Fiddlehead/Folino's in Shelburne is a very easy trip from Burlington and should not be missed. Growlers and Second Fiddle cans. They had plenty when I was up there recently.

Did this same trip last weekend and 100% agree with the Fiddlehead/Folino's combination. Also, if you're going to Alchemist, Doc Ponds is nearby and they have wonderful food and a great draft list!

For Stowe - I'd suggest Doc Ponds for lunch and the new Von Trapp beer hall for beers. Also Stowe Beverage (right next to Alchemist) for a beer store. Bob in there is the man.

Folino's in Shelburne is solid for pizza and is BYOB (doesn't have to be from Fiddlehead)

I might try to squeeze Fiddlehead in, I won't have a car so I could persuade someone to drive me.

We do get Fiddlehead on draft right where I live, so I can drink their regular IPA regularly (Second Fiddle is on tap sometimes too).

I just spent 4 days in Stowe with my wife and kids, and I'd second the Doc Ponds recommendation - great taplist, great food. Also, Sunset Grille is right next to Alchemist, and I've enjoyed their food the two times I've had it. Typical bar food and not nearly the tap list of Doc Ponds, but they do have heady topper and make wings with heady-based sauce. The Bench is another restaurant with a decent tap list. But like I said - I personally think Doc Ponds is the place I'd recommend if you're only eating one meal in Stowe. There's other bars around, too - Backyard Tavern is the one I didn't get to try that I wanted to.

The Von Trapp beer hall was mentioned and is a really nice venue. German lagers, pilsners, etc. - so it depends on your group - but they are all great representations of those styles.

In Burlington, Farmhouse Tap & Grill would be my top recommendation for food/tap list.

Check out Pizzeria Verita for dinner (not open for lunch). Decent beer menu and top notch pizza. Their tiramisu is insane.

    Thanks!

Tentative plan is to snag breakfast Saturday morning in Burlington (they do Belgian waffles at Vonn Trapp, but its 45 minutes away), then hit up Vonn Trapp for a snack and some beers. Hit up Alchemist for beers, then go to Doc Pond for late lunch/dinner. Or in whatever order works.

Most of the summer activities won't be open yet, so we likely wont spend more time than this in Stowe. Plus, never been to Burlington, so I want to maximize my time there.

Just chiming in with a second vote for Farmhouse in Burlington for a fantastic beer bar with great food. Should be an easy walk from the Marriott, if I recall.
