Sam Adams Oktoberfest has the strongest vegetal quality of any beer I've ever tasted. It's extremely off-putting.

I am not looking forward to the last Oktoberfest beer of the season. There are, of course, good beers released afterward, but that just means that winter is upon us.

I'm looking forward to not buying many of the Oktoberfests I've had in past years. I'm sure there will be many new ones to be drank and disappointed with this year just as in past years.

Just can't resist beating your head against the wall, eh?

I've really simplified things in the past few years- stick to 5 or 6 faves, and get a case or so of each. These beers are better in quantity anyway.

Although, I must say, if I see a version from either Von Trapp or Urban Chestnut this year, they get added to the 'buy' list. They seem to make quality lagers across the board.

Good grief! Dislike a whole beer style over one beer that is not representative of the style.

I'll likely get chased out of the state of Ohio over this, and every year I somehow end up with a 6 pack anyway, but Great Lakes Oktoberfest is the one well liked Oktoberfest that I do not care for. The Munich malt character is overpowering to me for the style, plus GL lager yeast character has a taste that ia just a little "off" to me.

Obligatory honorable mention to Sam Adams Oktoberfest, which is so sweet I can't even finish, and usually makes me think about calling my doctor for a diabetes screening

Pretty much all of them which aren't lagered. The best thing about the style is the crisp lagered taste, the many breweries who take the easy way out and just throw in ale yeast, bah.

Michael, is Bell's on your 'radar screen' this year?

    Cheers!

I'll play that one by ear. We only started seeing them in NY a couple of years ago, so I'm still getting caught up on their lineup. But I enjoyed the Concecrator, so I believe that they can make a good one.

At the moment I'm thinking if it's handy I'll grab a sixer, but probably won't go looking for it.

I am not looking forward to not drinking last years SN Octoberfest. That beer was great.

I'm not a huge fan of the style, but hoss rye lager from great divide is by far the worst I've had which is weird because they are one of my favorite breweries.

I don't find the SA O-Fest all that offensive.
It's just not really representative of the style.
On it's own merits and not comparing it at all to a more authentic Märzen, it's actually a pretty tasty brew (especially on draft).

Yes, EXCEPT Sierra Nevada. All the other American versions I have had are too sweet.

Was not a big fan of these: SA, Shiner, Capital, GI, and Backpocket Hawktoberfest. In fairness, though, and in the spirit of full disclosure, the first one I tried last year was the SN/BR collaboration. That one set the bar impossibly high.

I was impressed with last year's Left Hand Oktoberfest. I'll be looking forward to this year's edition.

I'll have SA's Octoberfest just for pure tradition as it's one of the first fall craft beers I had, however, won't be getting much. Leine's Oktoberfest was absolutely terrible

You don't buy much Sam O'fest, which means you must buy some. Don't hate on it quite enough to go cold turkey just yet? But getting close?

Short's Noble Chaos was the worst Oktoberfest I've had. It was overly hopped with little malt character.

Flying Dog's Dogtoberfest is literally one of the grossest beers on record for me. Pungent cardamom bomb that burned the back of my throat from sticky sweet spicyness. Avoid it, folks!

So glad that it's not just me. Try as I do, every year, I just can't make myself like GL -- and I'm sure it has a lot to do with that odd yeast character. It fits well in their Ales, but it's just not right for their lagers -- especially the Okto.
