Lol, which still has 40 IBUs. Maybe in the world of american craft beer this is not considered hoppy, but in my book it sure is.. Not even mentioning how nonesensical the concept "black Kölsch" itself is.So again, do they make non-hoppy beers? All I had from them were hoppy...

I am assuming that your metric here is 40 IBUs.

Last evening I had a sample taste of a new Stone seasonal called Citrusy Wit. I enjoyed drinking that small pour. That beer is non-hoppy per the 40 IBU 'standard'.

    Cheers!

And this Wit, according to Stone's website, still has 35 IBUs.
Don't get me wrong, I am well aware that IBUs are not really a reliable indicator of how hoppy a beer might appear or not, but...
I have yet to hear of a classic Hefeweizen or Witbier with >30 IBUS. Schneiders Hopfenweisse, which for me is very notably hoppy, has 40. So i guess you still could call Stones Wit "hoppy" by "european" or "traditional" standards, probably.

And that is precisely why I made the point to mention 40 IBUs as the 'standard' in your prior post.

    Cheers!

I got that, I just wanted to put it into perspective that in a "european" or "german"market, 30 is sometimes already considered hoppy. So there is just a different perspective here and the entire Stone Lineup can be considered "hoppy" from that point of view.

Stone sure is bringing the great ''craft'' gifts of variety and creativity to poor, choiceless German beer culture.

And if a beer consumer prefers to drink "traditional" beer they can simply pass on the Stone beers.

    It's all good!!

    Cheers!

I understand your tongue in cheek comment, but were you seriously expecting a pilsner or helles? For me it's a no-brainer because 1) it's what they do best 2) it's what the consumer was expecting from them.

Well, maybe someday they will brew Arrogant Pilsner at Stone – Berlin?

Or maybe not since they would be concerned that the villagers will storm the brewery with pitchforks since the ABV is 0.3% too high!?!

    Cheers!

Nah...much more likely that the legions who have never even had "traditional" Pilsner at the source will fall in line behind the complete bullshit belief that "normal" German pilsner truly once was anywhere close to those ABV and IBU levels.

Uuuuuuuuuuuhm. 5.2 abv Pils itself is not the problem.
But claiming a 5.8 abv, 47 IBU beer is a "return to the norm" of pilsner while not liking or not getting german beer culture at all is, well, just being an arrogant bastard.........
    huh.......maybe it's all just perfect marketing:wink:

I saw several folks discussing what the factors might be to explain why people are resistant to change. There's actually quite a bit of study on the topic. It's a fairly fundamental part of human nature. Here's some of the basics: http://www.torbenrick.eu/blog/change-management/12-reasons-why-people-resist-change/

Now, as to why there would be so very much ado about whether one person might have different taste in beer than another, or even *gasp* choose not to finish a beer that didn't especially appeal to them....yeah, lol, not so sure. Provided a source of befuddled amusement over morning coffee for me earlier however. Cheers to all for that!

Right now out on our patio at our nearly-open Berlin bistro there are easily more than a dozen 65yo+ Germans scattered around with other younger folks. I think they might be under the impression that they're enjoying themselves and that they are liking our beers, but I'll go inform them that they should be upset instead. Especially that really kind older German gentleman that came up to me and told me "This reminds me of how beer used to taste!" Admittedly I didn't tell him that was technically incorrect as he was drinking a Stone IPA, and I instead just thanked him for his kind compliment, knowing that he simply meant that he was enjoying the fact that it had bountiful malt and hop characteristics.

That's the thing, I guess NO ONE around here is complaining about stone beers in general, right? All I had were very tasty.
