I feel like it works the other way too. If I go to to Tree House or Alchemist or whatever, there's a strong compulsion to buy whatever the limit is, because there's a limit. It's a buying bread before a snowstorm situation, where you might not need any bread but damnit you're going to buy some because it's all going to be gone in an hour and what happens if you need bread then? It's a lot easier to be rational about what you're buying when you know there's going to be a steady, consistent, accessible and essentially unlimited supply.

In conclusion, it's good that Trillium has a lot of beer, a lot of hours, and isn't located out in a cornfield somewhere.

Just wanted to support this. I was "on my way" to the Cape this past Friday from CT and the knowledge that the situation was zero stress was what made me make the trip to Canton. I will do it again. I am pretty sure I got lucky on route 3 with nothing that I would call painful traffic leaving Trillium at 5 on a Friday. Anyway, I got there and saw the reality of almost no line and felt no compulsion to buy the max (obligatory ... Price drove some of that). I'd never had Trillium. I bought 3 Fort Point, 3 DDH and then just 1 of the other three available cans. My thought was, this is such a pleasurable buying process .. I maybe can pull off the detour again some other time.

Trillium is definitely not immune to hop shortages: if memory serves, they ran out of certain hops both in 2014 and 2015. I believe JC secured some sort of short-term mosaic contract last year to be able to brew Headroom for Hop Jam. But I think you are partially correct in that I recall him posting something maybe late 2014 or early 2015 about locking down their hops contracts for next 3 years at their current (at that time) levels, before prices shot up in 2015 (and, I presume, 2016). Might be able to find his username on here and look up his posts if you're curious...

Last year they were unable to brew mettle for a significant period of time due to shortages.

And yet if this was over a month ago with them releasing this as a 750 ml at $8.60 (same $/oz), everyone would think it's a steal! It was probably even more than that when they did it too.

Anyone know if the next packaging run is going to be tomorrow or if it's Friday? Debating a trip in from the Cape.

It's all speculation until Trillium tweets/IG's the next release. Check their site for up next and social media accounts.

Quick heads up...power just went out in Canton. Well have to delay opening retail until we restore power. Electrician is 20min out right now...will post updates as we go, anticipate a slight delayed open.

Also, was a typo on DDH Scaled price on website...it'll be $20/ 4 pack, fixed now.

A warning to customers about power outages and a decrease in posted price? Man...

(Edit to clarify): That's damned good customer service.

Some of them do. Treehouse is canning 2000 cases this week (according to their website). That seems in-line with previous per-batch numbers (~450 cases per style) they have posted. And they'll sell out of it by end of the weekend. I think they are making as much as their facilities will allow.

I'm guessing Trillium has higher overall production and the local distribution to bars and bottle shops makes it easier to buy at their two locations -- there's not a single point of availability.

Odd question, but is it possible for a beer to get 'skunked' in a can? I cracked my last Vicinity from the first canning run two nights ago, and it had a distinct 'skunk' smell about it. The others didn't. All of them went straight from Canton to my fridge at home and stayed there.

I drank it, it was pretty good (as is to be expected), but I was surprised by the smell. I always thought 'skunking' was caused by direct sunlight.

I've had beers get skunked within just a few minutes in a glass in direct sunlight. :slight_frown:

I am hitting Trillium Saturday. Based on feedback from everyone I thought I would have a great selection of beers in cans, but they look to be running quite low. Everything seems to have kicked the last few days and don't see any new beers being added. Hoping they are doing some canning prior to the weekend. :slight_frown:
