It was a predetermined flight? When I went two weeks ago the flight was the classic version on a paddle.

I just got done writing about Conclave having a predetermined order on their flight. I do not like this style.

The flight was not predetermined but I generally follow the order that is on a list, just because usually most brewers want you to go in a certain order. Maybe I'm just used to that because the Porter --> Light --> Sour --> Porter --> Wheat --> APA was unusual.

But I should know better than to do that myself.

I see. I'm jaded and cynical with regard to this because having been drinking at small places for over 10 years now I've come to believe that the ordering of beers has more to do with which line was open to tap the next keg rather then a strict adherence to an order of preferred imbibing. Certainly there are places out there that hold this tenet dearly but I've come across enough of the opposite that I prefer to indulge in my own manner.

    I totally can understand this.

I've just adjusted to light --> dark just because of the usual richness of the darks by the time I am at the 6th or 7th mini-glass. So going back to an IPA can sometimes be jarring for me. I feel like the flavor of some of the porters/stouts and the heaviness can throw me off if I have them in a certain order.

Here, at Twin Elephant, I was given a 1-6 and even though I should have known better just by looking at the order, I decided to follow their way instead of doing it my usual way. That's on me and no one else.

There is no right ay to do it. I always start with the beer I'm most interested in even if the flight includes an Imperial Stout and a Pilsner.

Definitely avoid Wally Pip, the 4.9% pale. Something off. I'm getting TONS of alcohol and nail polish in the taste. No head. Tastes like water and vodka. Shouldn't have been tapped -- very disappointing since I got a growler of it before sampling.

Just left the new Saison is top shelf, one of the best saisons I have ever drank.

$6.50 for a beer in a brewery tasting room is pricey. I think you can get a 32 ounce growler of Boat from Carton for $6.00. $10.50 for a flight is also nutty......IMO

The 22oz glass at Trap Rock is $7.50 + tax these days. Still a great buy. The pints are $6.50 + tax.

I'm now fully on board with this brewery - they just really need to up that production, which I now know they are currently working on.

Still haven't been there. The beer is improving, eh?

It is. They just need to have the capacity to produce it consistently.
And by consistently, I don't mean the quality of the product... but the quantity.

At least 4 - 5 beers I'd have pints of, regardless of what people think of the price.

Agree 100% I think each time I've been there I've noticed improvement, which is a little scary since it's on my direct route home from work.

Aw nuts, I was thinking of going tomorrow to go have a Lil Shimmy Ye.

That tap takeover was nuts, everyone did a number on Lil Shimmy and Mr Pinkerton like immediately.

I can’t speak to Lil Shimmy Ye; however, there was a post on FB hinting at an appearance of Shimmy Ye w/ Mango this weekend. Now, I’m aware of the negativity around some of the earlier batches of Shimmy Ye, but that doesn’t mean one can’t respect their approach: take a recipe and revamp, tweak, dial, and sprinkle some magic into the next batch…work it (e.g. they have made strides with Lil Shimmy Ye). Although, I’ve always been thoroughly impressed with Mr. Pinkerton. Regardless, these fellas know when something is off, act quickly, and makes the necessary altercations. My guess is that if they brewed Lobby Daddy again, it would be less sweet and more coconut forward

Judging and writing off breweries on the early goings is never a good idea. They're getting used to a new system and trying new recipes. There was a great post a while back from a brewer on this topic exactly.

This was legitimately the conversation I had with one of the owners of Twin Elephant just a weekend ago. They actually do listen to constructive criticism.

I was also told the same thing about Czig Meister as well.

By now, you can seem to tell who is going to try and who isn't. I love that TE is committed to improving constantly.

Stopped by on Sunday for the second time since their opening and enjoyed the beers more this time around. Especially the Wallaby Whammy!
