    Good morning, people's.

Here are some things I learned about the virus from people I know who work with the government, with some of it being Wynwood specific.

    1) If the CDC (Centers for Disease Control + Prevention) is even the tiniest bit concerned, then it's something we should pay attention to. They don't issue warnings for no reason. Is it the RAGE virus from the movie "28 Days Later"? No. But still worth being cautious about. There was an outbreak in Wynwood, + thousands of people visit per day.

    2) The media are not telling us what really happened. Yes, 13 (that's the only number I've heard of so far) cases came back positive, but what we don't know is how many actually originated in Wynwood. There is a tourist destination in Wynwood where it is believed 1 mosquito bit somebody who had the virus, then went around biting others, therefore spreading the virus. This was in 1 spot alone, from what I was told. It makes sense. Mosquitos in a large crowd do tend to bite multiple people. The biggest concern came when they figured this mosquito must've laid eggs, hence the major fumigation that occurred. So these places being cheered on as heroes for taking the initiative to close, didn't do so because they felt it was the right thing to do, it was because they were forced to, + from what I understand, weren't too happy with it. They refused to do so when first asked.

    3) If you were to contract the virus right now, + were tested, we wouldn't even find out for approximately 2 weeks if you were infected, which means you're more than likely to be rid of it by then. What does this mean? Means the people who were infected already had this over a month ago, + not the last few days, or even the past week when the news broke. This also explains why the thousands of mosquitos being tested daily keep coming back with negative results. How they can test mosquitos + get such a quick response as to their Neg/Pos status, but take so long with our blood, confuses me still, but that's the case.

    4) Unfortunately, for now, there is no vaccine/cure for the virus, so those who do come up with the symptoms need to stay indoors/home, + rest. It's the only way to get through it. If you're one to not take care of yourself, it can linger for up to a month. If you do take good care of yourself, 2 weeks, tops, but usually within 3-5 days.

    5) It is believed since the origin of this happening in Wynwood came sometime in June/early July, that by the time September comes, the outbreak would've already come + gone in the area, which is actually what they think is the case right now. It is also believed that if you are somebody who've contracted the virus already, you are likely to never get it again. Sort of like the chicken pox.

All of this is from a conversation I had with a government official who's working in the Wynwood area. Obviously is something to be cautious about, but he did express his opinion that the media isn't telling us all of this simply because it's easier selling papers/ratings while fear mongering.

That being said, if you do plan on getting pregnant anytime soon, or are pregnant now, take greater care of yourself, + not just in Wynwood. Miami as a whole is a tourist destination for the world, + this came here most likely because of a tourist visiting, + so began the spread. The Olympics are currently being held in what is known to be the Zika capital of the world, + we're not hearing as much about them as we are about Wynwood. Just take care of yourselves.

Have a great weekend, + if we do go forward with Miami Madness day, hope to see you there.

if there's any threat/risk at all why not just go to a no-proxy BPT?

These are only my guesses, so don't take as final JWB word, but for starters, the majority of our fanbase, are locals. Doesn't make sense to go BPT when people can just come to the brewery, on top of the fact that we've never done that before, + it's a bit too late in the game to be switching to that, at least for this release. Lost Abbey have been planning theirs for 3 years, + look how that went. Of course there's the issue at hand with Zika, but like I mentioned earlier, we don't believe it will be a threat come the 3rd of September. If it is, we'll postpone with enough notice, + come up with something new.

Plus, people love coming to the brewery on bottle release days. At least the majority who I speak to. There are some seriously amazing beers opened while people wait. Some of the best bottle shares I've ever been to, have been on JWB bottle release days. We look forward to them, as do the fans. Gives us a chance to put in some great one time releases on draft, too. This is new to us. As a matter of fact, I can't think of any other brewery having to deal with something like this, so it's not like there are solid solutions/answers to this, because it's not happened before.

Yeah yeah, touché. I agree. Our social media dude had literally just read an article where the mayor was talking about the virus, + hadn't seen the CDC announcement. We also see, in person while they're shooting, the media going crazy on TV about it, yet all the crew are walking around in shorts + tank tops.

I don't envy the mayor. You're first priority is the safety of your constituents but you can't forget about the tax dollars that pay for infrastructure, municipal services and social programs. It's a tough balance. People need to do their own research and take precautions. If you are going down there be smart and stay safe.

South beach yes!!! Or any beach yes!

Wynwood.... Not really. I've never spoken to someone going to Miami and saying I cannot wait to go to wynwood! Unless they are looking for something specific like a restaurant or bar. It's mostly locals in wynwood.

There was nothing in wynwood 5 years ago and you were more likely to get robbed or buy crack than visit something.

It may be growing, but it definitely is not a MAJOR tourist destination. People go to Miami for the beaches, clubs and bar on the beach and the people on the beach.

Overall...very informative and we'll thought out post. One quibble...the Olympics. There has been a ton of coverage about Zika and Rio. Not to mention a number of US athletes pulled out of attending due to Zika concerns (like 3 of the top 4 golfers in the world who opted to not attending even though this is the first Olympics in over 100 years to include golf). I think the only reason more athletes didn't pull out was because the Olympics are only once ever 4 years and as an athlete you have a limited window to compete at your peak.

As for why Wynwood has gotten SO much coverage...it's because this cases represent the first US cases that couldn't be attributed to travel or sex contact with an infected person. All the previous cases were the result of some being bitten in another country or have sexual contact with someone bitten in another country. The cases attributed to Wynwood represent the disease now being "here" so it is a major development and very much a new item for everyone in the US. Now...hopefully as you've been told...the "outbreak" was just one insect biting someone that was already infected and then spreading it to 12 other people and it has been contained to that. But, an instance like that is literally all it would take to cause Zika to spread across the US. One mosquito biting an infected traveler and then biting some tourisk who then head home and spread the disease further.

And to the people that want to brush this off...if I was looking to have a child in the future (luckily I already have my two kids and we are done) I would be much more worried about Zika than malaria. While malaria can be fatal in 3rd world countries, it's easily treaten here in the US. Zika on the other hand has no vaccine or cure. And they don't know for how long after being infected it can have an affect on pregnancies. It's a small risk but a very serious concern because of how severe the consequences can be.

Sorry for my little soap box moment. Back to beer now...if anyone wants to pick my up some JWB beers some time, I'd be happy to pay for the beer and shipping label and send you a thank you beer or two from Tampa

    First highlighted sentence: Strawman fallacy
Second highlighted sentence: Appeal to Personal Experience Fallacy, or Anecdotal Fallacy.
    Third highlighted sentence: Non-equivalence Fallacy
    Fourth highlighted sentence: Strawman Fallacy
    Fifth highlighted sentence: extreme hyperbole

This could be due to the fact that JWB did such a fantastic job of alienating their non-local fan base prior to even opening.
