Naperville Standard Market got both today and still had Wah Wah and Off the Record

Man mad flavor is way more bitter than I remember it being. Poured my bottle for a few friends last night and none of us loved it. Either something is very different from batch 1 or I'm remembering it wrong

Had Mad Flavor last night. It had a interesting juicy and grassy taste. Not their best, but a pretty damn good beer

I think I enjoyed Special Sauce #5 just as much if not more than #4. Something about the Nelson hops and the combo of juicy, earthy and dry taste notes really appeals to me more than just a citrus bomb. Very impressed with that brew.

I had the chance to try Special Sauce #5 tonight. To me, all I tasted was the mosaic hops, didn't get that "juicy" flavor i remembered from #1 and #2. Still a solid beer and better than #4.

That's weird, because it's Nelson Sauvin hops, not Mosaic.

I guess that is odd then, Tasted very similar to a lizard king to me.

I agree with the bitterness of Mad Flavor.

Special Sauce was once again incredible.

Not my fave batch of special sauce, seemed sweeter than a lot of the previous batches. Batch 1 is still my favorite.

The Mad Flavor is going to get some negativity but I really enjoyed it. It was somehow juicy and piney at the same time. Really interesting.

Anybody know why Binny's South Loop isn't delivered Mikerphone anymore and whether they will again in the future?

Well, was unfortunately let down by both MF and SS#5. Can pretty safely say I'll stop hunting for these beers for a while (unless there is a Lunches, Brunches v2)

Makes me laugh seeing checkins like "Nelson isn't my thing but I bought it anyway. Don't like this as much as citra"

Don't spend your money on a beer you probably don't like. Especially if chances are high there was someone else who was going to love it.

This sorta ties in with the Nth thread about rating to style that I tiraded in. "I'm not a big fan of sour beers, so I really didn't like Fou Foune." "I hate smoked beers, and Aecht Schlenkerla Maerzen was terrible." "I like bitter West Coast IPAs, so this Trillium/Tree House thing sucks."

If you know don't like it, why waste your money, especially in the case of a limited release where it should go to someone who does enjoy it. And please, if you hate a style, don't review it.

But I digress. Nelson is my favorite hop, and I'm excited to drink SS5 and MF2, but I'm saving them for line-waiting at New Glarus this weekend.

I had spoken to the beer guy at Binny's about 4 or 5 months ago about this very issue with Mikerphone's beers - at that time they only had a couple of the old less sought after Mikerphone beers on the shelf. He told me that Mike was giving an increasingly large share of the cases to Warehouse Liquors and cutting back on the SL Binny's share, so he thought they were just going to stop carrying it. Which seemed odd - why stop carrying something just because you get a small amount, but it might have come down to shelf space - Binny's SL does carry a wider selection of the local south loop/south side beers. Anecdotally, I haven't seen a Mikerphone beer in there since that time.

    BUT TICKS BRAH!!!

Call Me Big Poppa -- a blend of 3 stouts bringing together aromas and flavors of maple syrup, cinnamon, vanilla, chocolate, whiskey, oak and a few other spices.

Sounds awesome. Hopefully it will see bottles one day...

Per FB, it sounds like Mike will be bottling Special Sauce 6 (equinox) and Hey Ya (not sure what that one is) by the end of next week. If he's got helpers again, I've been told to expect the delivery to be a lot quicker than it has been in the past.

Hey, can someone who had Special Sauce B5 add the ABV to the beer page and maybe throw up a picture? I skipped this release.

IIRC Hey Ya is a Galaxy and Motueka hopped DIPA.

I opened Wah Wah, Special Sauce #5, Mad Flavor #2 and Off the Record last week on vacation at a beach house. I was a big fan of Special Sauce #5 - it was my favorite yet. I'm sure many of seen me post that I'm not really a big fan of the NE style IPA, but I really enjoyed this one. I also really liked Off the Record - really enjoyable beer for the summer. Wah Wah was OK - not exactly my style (I still like to check it out even if the style isn't right up my alley so I can keep trying to diversify and see what's out there). Mad Flavor I thought was just downright bad - it had some strange aroma and taste to it - kind of herbal. Maybe I had an off bottle.

I've got another bottle each of SS and MF that I'll drink in the coming week or two (unless someone out there is really looking for a bottle of Mad Flavor).

OK glad it isn't just our bottles we opened at the office. Mad Flavor #2 drew out many yuck faces I have never seen before. We thought it was just the one bottle so we opened the second one and it was equally gross. It had a chalky, malort-like, super bitter, flat out NOT enjoyable taste. Heard one of our friends flat out drain poured it. On the other hand Off the Record was very nice for the summer and so refreshing after the Mad Flavor. And as always SS#5 is just superb.
