How? I simply have yet to have any Oktoberfests that I liked more than the Hacker Pschorr, including the Metropolitan. Not saying any of them aren't good, I just prefer Hacker Pschorr :grinning: If you don't respect my personal tastes then oh well :grinning:

Well, that New England Style Maerzen from Kerouac Brewing is one!! Nah, I'm staying positive. I'll buy my case of Spaten Okto and I do look forward to a fresh Sierra Nevada/Mahrs collaboration.

Much as I like Metro beers, the Afterburner disappointed me; far too nutty and roasty -- very "Americanized," and Metro usually avoids that.

True Oktoberfest should be mildly sweet up front and finish dry. Sounds like you've based your opinion on Americanized Okto-ESB.

I didn't like Odell Oktoberfest last year which surprised me, because most of their beers are excellent. Part of the reason was the complete lack on any head retention no matter which glass I poured it into. On the other hand I just tried Great Divide's Oktoberfest, which was a solid, enjoyable take on the style.

Josephs Brau Oktoberfest - one of my 3 worst beers ever (Guinness and Shock Top).

My favorite beer is Ayinger Oktoberfest-Marzen and I love Samuel Adams Octoberfest. Now that I have cut way back on gluten and stopped drinking Belgian witbiers (I really miss Hoegaarden!), Octoberfests would be my favorite style.

I admit that I am not the world's most well-informed beer drinker, but I hated JBO to the point that I could not have identified it as an Octoberfest in a blind tasting.

I'm not looking forward to all the Oktoberfests that are coming out already before its even the middle of August, let alone September. Then come starting the second half of September or so when I'm actually in the mood to drink this style a lot of places are sold out of Oktoberfests already because of this utterly idiotic practice of breweries releasing their seasonal beers well before its actually the season said seasonal beers are meant for!

I'm always in the mood to drink Oktoberfest style beers so the sooner they get here the better.

Just tried Dead Ringer over the weekend for the first time. First of all, the caps on some of them were beginning to rust and introduced a very unpleasant metallic taste. Yuck!

For those that weren't rusty, I agree with you. Just doesn't do anything for me. I'll stick to hoppy beers when it comes to BP.

Did you buy it late in the season, or maybe it was a year-old batch? I ask because I find the Josephsbrau to be one of the few U.S.-brewed Oktos that comes close to Bavarian-brewed.

Hard to define your preferences with Ayinger being so far different from Sam Adams, and JB right in the middle.

I don't remember if I checked the date, but I do not think Trader Joe's would sell year-old beer. It may have been late in the season when the Ayinger was sold out.

The SAO was on tap. I am not enough of a beer lover to pay $6 for just a glass of beer, but there used to be a place in Burbank called the Elephant Bar. They offered a late-night happy hour special - a big, tasty burger with a moderate portion of skin-on fries plus a 12-ounce craft or import for $7.75. I had a lot of Sam Adams seasonals and Blue Moons (I never chose Bud or Coors Light to save a dollar) before they went out of business.

I tried the style for the first time this year. I tried GL and SN. As others have noted the GL is quite sweet and I found it to be also. I did like the SN very much.

I'm not looking forward to any of them so I can't narrow it down. I like the style just fine, really, but I don't get excited to drink any particular one.

Hacker is close to the top of my list as well. I was lucky enough to spend a day in the Hacker tent at last year's Oktoberfest in Munich and if you think it's good over here in the states...Holy Moses it is smooth straight out of the wooden barrel! Great brew!

But the best is probably Augustiner Keller's Oktoberfest. Not sure why they won't export that liquid gold to the US.

As for the Okt brews I don't look forward to: Sam Adams, Yungling, Shiner.

I think it's perfect for what I want. I don't like the festbeir style as it's generally very pale. I don't want a beer like weihenstephaner makes. I want metros beer.

There are plenty of outstanding American made Oktoberfest beers. I'm not saying you can't have a preference for the hacker, but dont discount American brewing all together
