How can I make this into a fermentation cooler?

Fermentation aromas are going to come out of the fermenter no matter what you do.

    No.

I had the same problem. The stock thermostat had a temp sensor right by the cooling plate, I don't know how that worked at all. What are you using to attach the sensor? Also what are the dimensions of this fridge?

The stock sensor in my fridge was a pressure sensor. That small line the goes from the knob to the cooling plate is actually hollow and gas filled which is why it can be so close. The sensor is just taped to the side of the wall by the wire, but the head of the sensor isn't covered. I might put a dab of super glue on the head, not sure yet, I want to make sure that's where I want to keep it. But it's secure for now and not going anywhere.

14-15ish" x 29" But you also have the compressor bump at the bottom and various bumps and nooks from where the shelving and cooling plate is from. This will fit a 5 Gallon carboy. And the fermenter (plastic bucket) in page 1 is 14" around and fits like a glove.

I just lowered the temp to 66°f to get ready for fermentation for my second batch of beer. Directions say keep between 65°f - 68°f.

Yea I need to upgrade my minifridge since my current one is too small to fit a 5gal. I'm going to put it all back together and sell it and upgrade to one that is at least 29" high like yours. Mine stays 66F effortlessly, the compressor hardly ever kicks on.

Look on Craig's list like I did. I got this fridge for $10 because the dumbass didn't know how to plug a leak he made in the ice tray where coolant leaked out. Get a dremmel grind off the paint, att JB weld and refill with 134a with a tap valve you can get for $5. I already had the coolant so the fridge didn't hardly cost me anything.

You did run a vacuum on it before you refilled right?

No as I didn't have a vacuum pump. But it works just fine. I think I'll come back and do this eventually. I have a spare pump I can either use to replace this one or use that as a vac pump. I asked a few people and they said a vac pump on the small compressors doesn't really matte that much as the space is already so small. But again, I'll do it eventually. The fridge is running at 70°f this morning so that's all that matters.

Well the tubing length will get vacuum pulled too. You don't want any moisture etc in there as it will destroy the compressor. It'd be a good idea to eventually pull vacuum on that thing.

I live in Socal, it's very dry here. Not worried then.

Found this on YouTube today. I thought this was pretty cool for checking up on your brew.

Looking at several sites, there is not much love for this

Many probably consider this an unnecessary expense. But I rather like it. Would work wonders if you have a few brews going at once.

The reviewers do not have a high opinion of it. I know it seems like a good idea, but it isn't.

I think people are hesitant to change, especially when it costs them extra money and they can do without it. I don't see any drawbacks of using this, so it you want it I'd say get it.

BTW,.. saying something "isn't a good idea" doesn't do any good if you don't have a follow up reason as to why...

I think the the point @corbmoster and I were making is that for a $200 it should probably have a better rating than 3 out of 5 stars. People that reviewed it had some serious issues with it. I don't think it is about hesitancy to change, it is more about spending $200 and having a guaranteed payback. Everyone, even those who like it site issues with the build quality and the service they are getting on support

That's exactly what my point was, and I thought I was pretty clear when I said:
But by all means, go for it. Feel free to be reviewer #58 that thinks the equipment is sub-par and kind of a waste / doesn't live up to expectations. Maybe you will be the exception.

And I don't think we can be accused of hesitancy to change... not when I advocated using a brewie, or what ever the automated electric counter top beer maker was. haha :grinning:

Truth be told I've been in a work group of home brewers and computer programmers that want to make a better version of the brew bug. I'm not sure if we will get anywhere, but it's always worth a try.

I went and read their comments. Yea, I see your guy's point on this one. Sounds like it had good intentions, but by the time it got back from the Chinese manufacturers it was a pile of shit. I do like the premise of being able to remotely see what is going on with the brew though. Does anyone else know of a similar product that is more durable? They already dropped the price of this thing down to $149, but price doesn't matter if the quality is shit. Ohh well, thanks for the follow up with real answers though those I appreciate, thanks!
