    Hey!

So, I'm going to be embarking on a Road Trip of legend: Starting in Boston and going as far as Vegas then back!

Anywho--I'm posting this in the forums of the states I'm passing through. In the case of this forum, I will be hitting up Charleston and Asheville, en route to Nashville. I'll be passing through Virginia and hitting Richmond it looks like as well. I know Asheville has tons of breweries but haven't really looked up much; do any of you locals have any suggestions for good breweries to visit/brewpubs to refuel at in the locations I'm going through? I'm leaving tomorrow and will be in those areas until Sunday.

Any help would be appreciated, thank you so much!

    Without being long winded;

    RICHMOND
    Breweries:
    - The Answer
    - Veil
    - Triple Crossing
    - If you don't plan to be back in the area then checking out Stone just to see the sheer size of the facility

    Food/Beer Bar:
    - Mekong (same building as The Answer and same owner). Regularly named one of the regions, if not one of the countries, best beer bars. Awesome food!

Asheville....drop by Wicked Weed main pub, the W Weed Funkatorium, and Burial, all 3 very close to each other. There are others in this area, but those would be my top 3 stops. Have a great trip!

@MHorridge is the guy to talk to. He loves it to answer questions that would be answered by a little research or use of the search function. Especially since Richmond and Asheville are such beer ghost towns there are definitely not any threads devoted to them.

Richmond: The Veil, The Answer, Hardywood
Asheville: WW Main Site / Funkatorium - food at the main location is AMAZING
Sierra Nevada (it's an absolute must see)
Pisgah on the way into or out of depending on your driving direction. Check and see if they have any concerts going on bc their amphitheater is legit and they always have great bands and the beer is solid.
    Burial

Charleston - Westbrook and Coast for breweries. Tons of great places for food. Definitely check out Edmunds Oast.
    - Hominy Grill for breakfast - Charleston Nasty Biscuit with fried chicken breast, cheddar cheese & sausage gravy

Cru Café for lunch - http://crucafe.com/

    Husk for dinner.

Raleigh-Durham-Chapel Hill, Saxapahaw, Greensboro, Winston-Salem, Hickory have great options across North Carolina. Are you going from Richmond to Charleston, then to Asheville? A north/south transit of North Carolina misses most of the state's new beer happenings.

If you're going to Asheville on I-40, I'm pretty sure you are legally required to stop at Fonta Flora in Morganton.

Then Fonta Flora in Morganton NC, (between Hickory and Asheville)

There is a lot of hype about Wicked Weed (they do make great beer) but I think it is a bit over sold. Burial Beer is as good, (IMHO) without being tailored for the tourist.

As some else mentioned Sierra Nevada is a must see, they pulled out all the stops when they build that place.

There are only 24 breweries in town, I'm sure you will find something ;-)

Every brewery in NC is apparently a great option :astonished:

I-95 from Richmond towards Charleston has very few options at all. My point was that a latitudinal move across the state provides more options than a longitudinal traverse.

Add Freehouse and (especially) Revelry to your list of Charleston stops

They do seem to be line up along I40. Get to NC, take I40 west to Asheville, then I26 to Charleston.
