To be honest, I've only had a couple of their packaged beers. Even in Germany, those kinds of beers don't hold up for long. Back when they were doing the growler thing, I had some that were disastrous.
    I guess a keller-style pils should be cloudy...but a normal one? That's horrible.
It's actually one of the approaches I like about Bierstadt. No bottles, their goal is just to replace all of those Stella taps much the way LH has replaced Guinness in CO. Prost should have taken that and run with it years ago.

I was at Lost Highway on Tuesday and had their Hop Cat Lager (magical,) Pilsner (magical,) and Amber Lager (magical.) But then again TJ Compton learned from and brewed alongside Bill from Bierstadt AND Kirk and Eric from Zwei, so a little magic can probably be expected.

    Zwei makes excellent German-style lagers.

Thought everything at Bierstadt was good.. Can't really tell much a difference from when Prost opened (haven't been in forever), but not necessarily a bad thing. The IPL was nice too. My favorite lagers in Denver have to still be the Schwarzbier at fiction and call to arms Vienna style lager.

Yah, Bierstadt pretty much hit it out of the park. Pils was awesome, dunkel awesome...didn't get to the other 2. Baltic Porter and Oktoberfest in the tanks!

Yup, I think that's essentially what they wanted to do. There are some minor differences, but it's essentially like having the heyday Prost beers back.
The helles is straight from Munich. Probably inspired by Augustiner. The dunkel is a bit stronger in the Franconian style. The Pils seems like a clear homage to Jever, right down to the little paper collar at the bottom of the glasses. The IPL...is an IPL. Not really my style of choice, but I can imagine the hopheads probably loving it.

I have to say that in addition to Bierstadt finally being open, I kinda like that the Rackhouse complex is finally complete. Even though they've been open a while, the menu and concept just hasn't been fleshed out until now. Hopefully things keep moving forward.

    Does Bierstadt fill growlers?

That's actually a pretty good question. Since the Rakchouse is their tasting room I didn't really see any mention of them (or see anyone doing it)...so I have no idea. Will check next time I'm in unless someone else knows for sure.

Yes, they fill growlers. I had to go upstairs as directed by the sign to let someone know I wanted a fill. A little wait and $8 later I was leaving happy. Yes, $8 for a 64 oz fill of your own glass. The Helles was damn good, too.

$8 for 64oz? Count me in on that.

    Follow-up questions:

    1) Anyone know if there are plans for a Marzen/Oktoberfest beer?
    2) Do they sell kegs?

Haven't seen it mentioned much but Beerito is another very crushable, great lager.

Going to have to go give Bierstadt a try... maybe around Sept 17 roughly.

Comrade is releasing their second lager beer this Friday at 5pm. The Paul Ogg Helles is lightly hopped with Magnum and Hallertauer Mittelfrüh. Lagered for 11 weeks.

Has anyone seen or tried any of the local Octoberfests popping up on shelves?

I saw Odell released theirs- grabbed a 6er of St. Lupilin though instead, knowing that wouldn't be around much longer hahaha

Pretty sure Left Hand's is out. I know its not local and I hate to be that guy, but SN's was better last year IMO.

So, the one this year is using a different/unique type of hop called Record. It's a German hop, but it's atypical compared to the usual noble hops (HM's, Tettnang, Spalt, Perle, etc.) they typically use. It has a different character to it that reminds me a little of cluster or even polaris. I like it better than last year's, but it's 100% understandable that many people will feel otherwise.

Avery's Kaiser is always my favorite. I like Odell's, too. I like Prost but not as much. I still need to try this year's version of Left Hand, Fort Collins and Dry Dock.
