Not directed at OP or anyone in particular--

    But honestly--

Nothing is more nauseating than watching the know it all beer geek overchat the brewer and do it just loud enough to make sure all those around hear it and impress on everyone just how superior he/she (usually he) is.

They have a hard time getting the foot out of the mouth because the head is too far up an a@#.

I was at a bottle shop about a year ago and there was a tasting for a local IPA. When the guys behind the counter tried to "sell" me I proceeded to tell them how I went to the brewery and was disappointed that my flight came in plastic cups. I then told them about the poor food and how forgettable the beer was. About a week latter I went to a party at the brewery and discovered that the guy behind the counter at the bottle shop was the owner! Oooops :flushed: ........since then he fired his brew master and poached another from somewhere in Michigan. Their beer is light years better.

I once so deliberately tried not to be 'that guy' when introduced to a well known brewer, that all I could manage to say was the most inane small talk. Jeez, I can still see him politely resisting doing any eye rolls at me...

I wonder what would be the worst thing for these guys to deal with- know it alls, or fawning dullards taking up your time? :grinning:

It was a total Prince-like encounter. He got up and walked away without answering me or making eye contact.

If they offer it for my opinion I believe I owe them an honest one. If I like it I'll say why and if I don't a simple 'not quite my style" will do.

"What are all of those rice and corn sacks out back for?" Nah, just as @JackHorzempa said above, ask questions.
