Is this relatively a fair trade?

If you and the other trader are happy, then yes.
    Why are you unsure?

Having had both I say yes. Czar Jack is underrated if anything.

I have a spare czar jack if anyone is interested. Never had chocolate rain before.

The problem is going to be convincing the Chocolate Rain holder that paid $40 for it that it's a fair trade when Czar Jack was $25.

I'm not defending that point just some people do get hung up on $4$

actually, not to make your argument worse, was $18 this year. Was not offered in growlers, but 750ml bottles, wax dipped. I have had it several times over the last week or two. Absolutely amazing. I have never had CR, and am eager to try. So if someone is interested in trying the Czar, I could throw in another TH BA beer with it (Twisted Jim perhaps).
(there that gets close to the $4$ for ya)

I'd be game for this. Let me start a "conversation" after a meeting I'm about to step into

No one really bit on my trade offer, the price difference was what stood out.

Hell no. Czar Jack, good to just below great.

Chocolate Rain, great to mind blowing.

One must consider bottle count and availability here. CR '12 has how many bottles? 3k at $34 before tax? Czar Jack had ~200?

It is troublesome to me that "the community" wouldn't do a 1:1 or CR '12 + for CJ.

If a person has multiples of one and none of the other, or one is a personal whale, maybe things change. But personally, I don't see how CR '12 owners can ask for something more in their favor than a 1:1.

I'll add that I have both, so I'm trying to be as neutral to both single-owner-parties as possible.

Chocolate rain is expensive, especially considering the $40 price and RS membership $200+ one needed to purchase just to buy the beer. Chocolate rain also has a lot of hype and prestige associates with it. Unfortunately, TH Czar Jack does not. I had a growler of Czar Jack last year and thought it was pretty good, but a lot like other ris CR is distinctive with it's very high abv, significant bourbon character and smooth vanilla. I realize czar jack is a ~200 bottles, but Rare was over 11,000 with at least 200 bottles left in existance and CR for Rare 1:1 are not getting done often because of $ amounts and also taste

    Bottle count isn't everything people.

FYI, $40 is the official retail, but NOBODY paid that much. CR was only allocated to reserve society members and none were left over so there will not be any retail on-line sales. As one of the posters mentioned, RS members paid $34 with their 15% Bruery discount.

chocolate rain will hit distribution, as will black tuesday, within the next 2-3 years. the bruery is smart - volume.
