Hops are harvested, bailed and overnighted to the breweries for use usually the day or day after they arrive. Used ASAP and are still "wet", hence the name.

Typically hops are harvested, dried, pelletized and then packaged and vacuume sealed.

Wet hops have a grassy like taste, typically.

Guess I don't understand how certain beers labeled "fresh hop" claim to go through that same process, yet don't achieve the distinct grassy taste. Maybe 2015 was just a down year.

No difference as I understand it. Both are just ways of saying that they hops are used fresh off the vine and not dried out. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

Oops, misread your question... I saw it as wet hop vs. standard hops, not fresh vs. wet. Should be exact same.

I found wet hopped Trailhead by Fat Head's to be awesome last year. One I always look forward to! BrooDoo by Three Floyd's is also very good.

ok. This is how I understand the industry's usage:

"Fresh" hop- can be used to describe hops that are picked and shipped undried or still "wet", to be used as soon as possible by the brewery (usually 24 hrs or so after harvest) OR some breweries will use hops that have been picked, dried, and baled from the immediate harvest. They're still used within a very narrow window of harvest (i.e.. Sierra Celebration), but they're not shipped wet. Fresh is sort of becoming a catch all phrase for harvest beers.

"Wet" hop- should be used to describe the exclusive use of freshly picked hops that have not been kilned or dried. They're not baled; they're packed loose. Due to the moisture levels, they'd get moldy very quickly. That's why they're usually overnighted. They literally are "wet" as they were on the bine.

We've previously called our harvest IPA "Yakima Fresh Hop" and moved forward with shortening the name to "Yakima Fresh" for label purposes. The sub-line mentions that it's a Wet Hop IPA. We felt that part was important. We've always used wet hops, shipped overnight at an absurd cost, to make those beers.

Hope this helps a bit. Cheers,

    Tony, CBC

Very excited. I thought it was as good or better than Hop Stalker last year.

That Creeper release is perfect, much better than the Bodhi release setup. I would be all over it if it wasn't for the fact that it's the same day as Fat Heads annual celebration of the hop. That's a can't miss event for me every year.

I agree. I'm really disappointed that I won't physically be able to attend the Fat Heads event. We always enjoy those events at the pub. We'll be sending beer though!

Any teasers on what might be there from you guys? I thought the pineapple mango bodhi was by far the best pour at brewers brawl. Incredible!

Just saw a post from Aficionado's in Polaris area that they got some Elysian in. I haven't seen it anywhere else yet but have been on vacation. I do love me some Space Dust.

No infusions. Straight up beer, yo. It's the celebration of the HOP, not fruit!
We will have a growler station at the Creeper release party featuring several tbd infusions though.

It's also the same day as the North Market Ohio Craft Beer Festival and the Brew Dogs USA AGM event in Columbus.
