Forgot boil finings on a large batch of IPA and plan on using gelatin after I rack into keg.

    Questions:
Anybody dryhop in keg AND fine with gelatin?...how did it work? I'm thinking that the dryhopping should probably be done AFTER the gelatin does it's thing with the very cold keg.

Unanimous consensus is that you do NOT want to boil the gelatin, but what temp is appropriate?
150*F? 170*F? just warm enough to get it to dissolve if using unopened packages and bottled water?... and should the temp be equalized before adding to keg?

1 tsp or 1 tablespoon per 5 gal or ?

I've done both ways. The gelatin with drop the hop haze post dry hopping but I feel it also seems to lessen the aroma a little. I'd do it pre dry hop.

When you make the gelatin, use post boiled room temp water or distilled. Sprinkle in the gelatin (1/2 pack per 5 gal). Let it bloom for 10-15 minutes then heat in microwave until it becomes clear. Mine takes about a minute. Then add to cold keg. I add it hot. Works in 3 days, like a charm.

Vinnie Cilurzo suggests using clarifiers BEFORE you dry hop. Just FYI

Are clarifiers a must? I rarely use moss or anything of the sort, and my beers turn out quite clear and no one seems to complain. Do you guys look for absolute clarity?

If you're happy with your beers then they're not a must. That said, fining not only makes your beer look pretty, but it also makes it more shelf stable.

I guess "pretty looking beer" could be subjective. Good to know about the shelf stability though, thanks.

    I do it this way:

Ferment beer -> Cold crash -> Dryhop -> Rack to keg w/ Gelatin & more keg hops if you like. 1tsp per 5 gallons, get beer as cold as you can.
