Its absolutely impossible being an IPA junkie,my tastebuds have tried to suck down a cheap lager but it turned out to be a drain pour. I cant stand it when Ill ask What kind of beer do you like and the reply is cold beer. Jesus man life is short when its in the budget buy it. If its tight week, buy a 12 of sweetwater IPA or go back to ole faithful Torpedo. Sierra seems to come along as an alternative when on a budget. Yeah its nice to have 4 packs and doubles ranging from 10 to 12 dollars but, you tend to consume 75 dollars of beer in one week. If i was rich the beer fridge would look like this all the time[IMG] [IMG]

The only reason I'd take a break is health or money. But honestly I'd just stop drinking. I only drink a few craft beers to appreciate the "craft" and taste and get a slight buzz. Not to get drunk which is the only purpose of bud light and crap.

I'll drink a Schlitz or a Pabst or a 'gansett if a pal hands me one and I'll be thankful for it, but I don't buy AALs for myself. On hot and muggy days when I want a smaller brew, I usually go for something like a Notch Session Pils, Mayflower Summer Belgian Session Ale, Smuttynose Hayseed Saison, Troegs Sunshine Pils, or Lost Nation Gose, all of 'em solid brews that fall between 3.8% and 4.5% ABV.

I've been stoked that good lower-alcohol options have been growing in number in recent years and I hope the trend continues.

No. As it is my beer fridge is always overflowing with tasty craft brews. Plus, I don't wanna.

I always have some Genesee Cream Ale in the refrigerator. Great after yard work, etc.

As my Grand Dad said many moons ago upon arriving on a train from Birmingham (2:00 AM), and perusing the refrigerator, "Mary Lou, you're long on milk and short on beer". He wanted any kind of beer.

Millions of people around the world drink light lagers and do so without the sole purpose of getting drunk. It's only the sad beer snob that fails or refuses to recognize this.

Never, no way. Not that I'm the best, but the reason I started home-brewing and kept working at getting better is to drink "well crafted" beers at a good price. I just have never been a fan of adjunct lagers and most typical mass produced beers. Not dumping on anyone but that's just the way I roll.
    Cheers all

Where I live a six pack of the regular beer is only 2 buck less than a modestly priced craft beer. I spend the extra 2 bucks and go for the craft. Right now money is tight so I have been hitting on my extensive stash in my basement. I just finished a bomber of Eclipse High West Rye barrel aged stout that was 2 years old. Excellent and paid for long ago. When my wife goes to bed I think it will be a bottle of Abt 12 (3 years old) while watching a good war movie. The fun part is that once money is better I have to replace the bottles I am popping out.

Personally, I wish we could all take a break from the term "Craft Beer" and talk about beer in terms of styles.

Pale lagers and AAL, have there place in beer world. I think most BAs recognize this.

I hear ya. $16.99 for a 30 of Narragansett is one of the best deals in all of beer. I also occasionally enjoy the occasional Country Club malt liquor (heresy around there parts lol)

Leinies is not considered craft. Where I come from (30 miles from Leinies brewery) we didn't consider it at all - mainly due to high school rivalries. Sure, in grade school Leinies was fine, but when we got to high school...

I recognize that. I was clearly generalizing being an internet douche.. "The only purpose of bud light and crap" yeah because people really believe that...
I was giving my personal feeling on a "break" which for me I'd rather not drink if I needed to stop drinking the stuff I like.
If that's a beer snob call me a beer snob.

I like to take a break every now and then, partly because selection here isn't the greatest, and partly because after a while it gets mentally exhausting to look for all the subtle nuances in great beers.

I'm not ashamed to admit that I split a 12-pack of Dos Equis with a friend or enjoyed some Bud Light (yes, enjoyed!) at a get together or drank a six pack of Boston Lager over a few days. It's good to relax once in a while, and, truth be told, sometimes I get cravings for the flavor that only macrobrews can offer.

And I also like to take a break from drinking altogether every three or four months just because sometimes I don't feel like having alcohol in me.

Well spoken sir. I detest beer snobs. We drink for the buzz and buy the beer we can afford. Anyone who says otherwise is a liar..

I am actually taking a break from beer period. Getting older also makes it easier to pack on pounds so I am currently in the middle of a two month sabbatical from beer. This is actually a two-fold adventure. I am not only losing weight (down 19 pounds so far), but I am proving to my wife that I am not the raging alcoholic she believes I am. But come September 20th (my birthday), I will be back amongst the living, consuming fine beer, but alas, in moderation, as I definitely do not want to pack back on all the hard fought weight I am losing. Cheers and I will see you out there in a month!

While in no way do I pretend to be a beer snob, and poo-poo anyone who drinks AALs, I will say that there are those of us out there that have achieved that time in their life where they refuse to buy anything of inferior quality. I happen to be that guy. I can afford the better end of the beer spectrum, and can afford the cost, therefore I refuse to skimp on quality. Just me and my personal choice, not demeaning to anyone for their choice, this just happens to be mine. I drink regularly while playing cards with several friends who love Budweiser. The toss back their Bud Lites, and I sip on my Lagunitas IPA. WE have a good time, we don't belittle each other over our choice of beverage, and we all have a great time together. No snobbery here. Oh and no, I do not drink exclusively for the buzz. I enjoy the taste of a finely crafted beer and would drink it for that reason alone. So you may call me a liar but you would be very mistaken.

You'd have to be more specific when you say "bigger brewery products", are we talking Sam Adams sized, New Belgium size, or something even smaller?
