Just looking to see people's opinions, obviously there's no right or wrong answer here. I'm still in the process of brewing my first beer so I can't even contribute to the conversation, but I want to know what people here think.

Alright, I guess I set myself up for that. Let's assume an American Style IPA or DIPA.

For an AIPA or DIPA, I love amarillo. Also adds a unique twist on a hefeweizen if you use 1/2oz per 5gal.

Simcoe and Citra seem to go over really well in my area. I'm using Legacy in a Black IPA I'm making right now.

Amarillo is the perfect American style aroma hop imho. I can't scientifically explain why but it seems to strike that perfect balance where it's plenty dank & citrusy but still has a lot of other flavors going on in the background. That means you can use 1oz or 6oz and that balance of flavors will just intensify in a linear fashion.

Other hops like Citra, Simcoe, Columbus seem to intensify exponentially where at a certain point it's just like "wow that's a fuck-ton of citrus and nothing else" or "This beer smells like a skunk ate purple kush and took a shit in a bong."

Again no scientific explanation. Just my taste buds.

I know it's cliche, but I just can't brew an APA without Cascade dry hops. Maybe because my first "Holy Sh*t!" homebrew was heavily dry hopped with Cascade and I crave that same experience. That said, I've also developed quite a hankerin' for Amarillo and, more recently, Citra.

i know they're all the rage right now, but damn if i don't love me some solid dry hopping with amarillo and citra (see Gumballhead and Zombie Dust for good examples of dry hopping done right with each)
