New to Ohio (2016)

Tried thunderlips for the first time. Without a doubt one of the best pale ales I've ever had. Please tell me this will be available in bottles soon.

 

My last two bottles of BB Vanilla Coffee Dark Apparition were infected. No trolling, just fact. This happens. Not looking for my money back, just providing additional information. FYI: also posted in the JO's forum.

 

Agreed - we had a tap takeover in cincy with a handful of their beers including bodhi and creeper, and thunderlips stood out to me!

 

Thought about hitting the beer fest downtown tomorrow. Anybody know if these events usually have backup kegs for day two or is it one of those deals where if it kicks night one then Saturday attendees miss out?

Libertys, a long while back. I think it 5 or 6 beers. Most lasted for days after as well

 

Anyone know much about Sibling Revelry? I stopped by on their opening night and wasn't impressed with anything they had on tap. I saw a few recent comments that they have gotten better so I went ahead and picked up a few singles of their newer canned offerings but its not much better. If you look at untappd the ratings for every one of their beers are average at best yet in the blink of an eye they seem to be everywhere. I constantly see their tap handles at beer bars and their cans are pretty widely distributed in the region. This place hasn't been open very long so I can't help but assume that the ownership is just buying their way into the market with deep pockets.

 

Their Swing State and IPA were solid, but it's not going to replace Fat Head's any time soon.

Also, Juju is on tap in NO.

One more thing - I just heard Fat Head's is opening a pub in Canton. That is news to me.

Shout out to Buckeye Lake Brewery. Checked them out yesterday - great taproom, service and beer. Enjoyed a pint of their session IPA and oatmeal stout. Fetty's food truck was delish as well.

 

Yeah... Sibling is definitely backed by some deep pockets. If they can't produce some significantly amazing beer to hit the shelves it will just be more beer that sits.

I am more of the "start small and expand organically when the market supports it", not "start big and expect success" like they have appeared to do! Some balls to open up with no history to can and distribute right away.

I have only had their IPA so far, so I am not trying to bash them or anything. Just talking in general. But that IPA was good, not much more then that though. We plan to stop by the brewery soon though.

 

I saw those cans at Marc's. I decided to pass.

 

I have found that Sibling's beers taste significantly better on draft than in cans. I have the same feelings about Platform. I thought Sibling's IPA on draft was actually really, really tasty. The can, not so much. Different strokes and all that.

 

I've had IPA cans and enjoyed them. I stopped by the taproom shortly after they opened and had a sampler of the 4 beers they had. The Lavender Wit was atrocious but the other 3 (IPA, Pale Ale and Dark Ale) were good to pretty good.

I bet the taproom is making money hand over foot because there are about 1,000 young(er) professionals that work right down the street at Hyland Software and those homies love them some craft beer.

No more hoof hearted or jafb at the Browns stadium. Looks like a step backwards to me but the false hope they are selling in terms of possible wins this season might be enough to sell out the stadium. I have a feeling you can find me mowing the lawn and cussing over the noise of the motor Sundays at 2pm.

 

I actually kind of liked the Lavender Wit for an easy drinking summer beer but I thought the Pale Ale was awful and the IPA was so-so. Different strokes obviously. I didn't mean to bash them, I was just curious as to what others thought about their insanely rapid growth despite not really proving themselves in the beer market yet.

It looks like Avon Brewing is opening this Thursday or Friday (haven't seen a confirmation as to which day yet) but it will be nice to have another brewery on the west side. I know they are brewing off site, but is it contract brewing?

 

Anyone know if Juju will be on in Middleburg or if Rick's Inspiration-ale made it through the weekend?

 

Rick's was there Sunday afternoon, so I assume it's still on.

I was told they are getting a few kegs of Juju this week, but I don't know if they will do growler fills or not.
