I'll be in DC Thursday evening (tomorrow) through Sunday morning with my wife and two kids. Between Aslin and Ocelot, which is more kid-friendly? If I can manage to get away by myself, which would be the best day and time to get some crowlers at Aslin? If I bring my own growlers they'll only fill the large mouth 32oz or regular 64oz glass, correct? Sorry for all the questions, I only read the last three months worth of posts for the most relevant info. Many thanks in advance!

 

Both are kid friendly. If you want Aslin crowlers get there around opening. Aslin doesn't fill growlers for there hoppy beers.

Unless something's changed, Aslin's stopped filling growlers completely. You can only get their pre-filled crowlers or drink there.

 

Ocelot is more kid friendly due to the space IMO, although I think Aslin has a little play area for little kids. It's been a couple months since I've been over there, so not sure if they still have it.

Regarding Aslin, they don't fill growlers. You can only get crowlers, and it's 2pp per beer. Also, if you don't go on Thursday or Saturday right when they open then you most likely won't be getting anything to go. They sell out fast, and you usually have to show up 30min - 1hr before they open. Saturday would be your best bet since they only have one IPA available to go - Laser Raptors. Thursday is going to be a shit show most likely. Good thing is they do a good job at keeping a decent supply at the brewery so you can at least have a couple pours and try everything.

Yes. Not sure if they fill the 750ML/2L sizes though.

Make sure to hit up Dominion Wine & Beer when you are in the area if you have time. They always have an excellent tap list, and a great bottle selection.

The just got a crowler machine and often have Ocelot on tap and will do a crowler of those.

 

I'll definitely check out Dominion. Wife saw me pack two empty 64oz growlers and said, "You're only bringing two?" She's a keeper for sure.

That's the one area the local scene is lacking IMO - good sours. A lot of the stuff Grimm brews is made down the road from Ocelot - Beltway Brewing. They usually have a couple good sours of theirs on tap. Bluejacket, Lost Rhino, Ocelot, Right Proper all make sours. Aslin has also been making some sour stuff, but I haven't had any of it yet so I can't comment on if it's good or not. Right Proper is probably your best bet if you want some good local sours. Diamonds, Fur Coat, Champagne is excellent. Kick.Kick.Snare is also great. They are both on tap at their Brookland location.

Go to The Sovereign if you want some bangin' sours though, but prepare your wallet. Tap list is looking pretty good. Bottle list is always great as well. They don't really have any Cantillon right now, but they do have a bunch of other stuff from Belgium.

Thanks for the kind words as always gentlemen. Definitely some sexy hops at Dominion right now, and a good handful of local sours (nothing on tap). Everything stated above is accurate concerning Dominion. Happy to answer any other questions you may have, hope to see you this weekend.

The first/only review says they got an uncarbed crowler - any one else have an issue?

 

My two crowlers were excellent and fine on carb!

 

Should I expect to have to be on line at Aslin before 11 on Saturday to get BSB? I haven't figured out any pattern to when they blow through their IPAs at opening, or when they actually make it to the early afternoon.
